Standing Up To What Is Right

in hive-175254 •  yesterday

One thing that promotes the thriving of evil is that the good people just sit and do nothing. The same wrong that you overlook today because it does not concern you, may come back to haunt you later. If you do not stand up to what is right, you may likely fall for what is wrong. In the world of today, a lot of injustices, moral and legal compromise, corruptions, etc, are becoming increased, standing up to what is right, even though it may be difficult, is very needful. Staying silent and watch things go wrong, maybe because of societal pressures, is what makes these wrongdoings to continue. When you want the ill in the world to reduce, then you have to do your own part by standing up to what is right.

Standing up to what is right is a clear indication of integrity. Integrity, in its simplest description, is doing what is right even if you are alone or no one is watching you. There are some people that may do right because eyes are on them, but when no one is watching, then you will see their true colour. It is what you do when no one is watching you or keeping an eye on you that shows who you really are. When showing integrity by standing on what is right, you have to do so without a recourse to the consequences or the effects that may come from it. It may not be convenient to stand by the side of rightness and by the side of truth, but it will be worth it at the end.

Standing on what is right contributes, in no small measure, to a better society. When you condemn what is wrong, even without being affected directly by it, will have positive effect on the society, which you will benefit from in the future. There are some injustices that should not be seen in the society if people spoke out early when they started. This is why, when you see something wrong, then say it out and condemn it. You may not be able to put an end to everything ill in the world, but in your own capacity and in your little way, you need to do something to make the society better.

You should not be afraid to take a stand against what is wrong and to stand for what is right. As a matter of fact, if you allow fear to hold you back from associating with rightness, then you have already opened up yourself to a bigger fear - the fear of having to face an increasing number of wrongness. Many years back, there was a particular irregularity we experienced in the place where we lived - some persons started to dump refuse indiscriminately whenever rain was falling, with the hopes that the water will carry the refuse to wherever it wishes. When we tried to get a couple of people to put an end to it, the fear of speaking out made a lot of people to keep silent, because the place was also inhabited by some high-brow people.

After a while of this wrong action, the drainage blockage and each time rain fell, the whole neighbourhood got flooded. When the local authorities came, they fined everyone in the street which was to be used to fix the drainage and clear the refuse. Even those who thought that it did not concern them, also partook of the consequences of being silent in the face of wrong. When you keep quiet when you are to say something, especially when evil is trying to prevail, then you are not only enabling it but you are part of it. Standing by what is right alse means shunning what is wrong.

Not only should you stand for what is right, you should also encourage others to do the same. By your actions and otherwise, try to encourage, influence, and motivate your friends, family, loved ones, colleagues, etc, to stand up to what is right. The more people you get to the side of the truth, the better the society will become. When you stay around people doing the good thing, you will realise that there is a level of peace that comes with it. This is why you have to encourage others to also do the right thing. One person you change positively will create a ripple effect of rightness to others as well, and before you know it, the whole world will become a better place.

Sometimes it can really be difficult standing for the right thing most especially when a whole lot of people are also standing for the opposite of it but I have come to discover that it is always worth it

Well said. It may not be convenient to stand on the side of rightness, but it is worth it.
Thanks buddy.
