One of the hardest things, yet one of the most important things to success is the discovery of one's self. Without discovering your identity and who you truly are, you may not be able to function properly and success may be hampered. For you to discover your purpose in life, there is a need to first discover yourself and what you are built for. The truth is, functioning in the right thing will make it a whole lot easier.
In the jungle for example, no matter how hunger hits the animals, you will never find lion eating grass. This is not a case of being proud but a pure case of self-discovery. When you allow yourself to be aligned to what you are created for, you will discover how easy it is to succeed.
Someone else may be doing well in a particular field and the person may even be your friend, but it does not mean that you should do the same thing unless you are created for it. Discovery of one's self is an individual journey that one must undertake. Whatever you want to achieve is basically hinged on discovery of who you are. Messi and Ronaldo discovered their passion for football and they pursued after it. It is not surprising how they function effortlessly in it.
Now one may ask, how do you know what you are built for and what are the pointers that can lead to self-discovery? Very simple, there are things that can point you to the right direction towards the discovery of yourself.
Firstly, you need to ask yourself the particular thing that you love to do and which you can do and get done effortlessly even without putting in much practice to it. You need to come to terms with the fact that it must not be related to your course of study. There must be at least a particular thing that is always in your subconscious mind that you have the flair for. This could be a pointer to what you are built for and can lead to the discovery of yourself.
Furthermore, there may be something within your environment that you always fancy or something you are naturally drawn towards. This also can lead to the discovery of yourself. I have a friend that, while growing up, got so fascinated about the game of football. Even when going on errands, he would stop for a while to watch kids playing street soccer and would even participate with them. In the absence of a ball, he would play just anything - from plastic containers to milk tins, to shoes, etc.
At a point, the locals nicknamed him Pa Jay (after the renowned Nigerian football legend - Jay Jay Okocha). A time came when there was an inter-state football competition for kids which was organised by the former state governor and amazingly, the kid was recommended to be part of the competition. At their first match, he came in as a substitute in the last 15 minutes of the game and he still put up an amazing performance and even went on to score the only goal of that match. You can imagine how he was celebrated.
Subsequently, the boy went on to emerge as the highest goal scorer of the entire tournament and also helped his team to win the trophy. This was how was picked and sent to the academy. At this present moment, he is a very big player that plays for the premiership side. You see, even though his parents wanted him to be a medical doctor, he realized that medicine was not his calling. He choose football and now, he has made a name for himself.
The truth is, you should not allow anybody's opinion to distract you from discovering yourself. If you function in someone else's area of calling, you may have difficulty but if you function in your own calling, you will experience ease.

In order to know the world, we must first know ourselves. It is a very interesting and thoughtful post friend @samminator, once again I enjoy reading your blog. I believe that if we dedicate at least half of the time that we dedicate to others, in questioning and observing ourselves, we would be better and better people and we would achieve more success in life.

Without a doubt, discovering yourself and knowing what you are capable of can never divert you from what you want. It is important to do what you really want to do and not out of complacency that way you will give 100%.
One more thing I really liked the way Jay Jay Okocha plays.
Thank you very much for sharing

Wonderful reading, it is true that many people complain about not knowing what their passion is ... But have they really asked themselves? or have they meditated on what it is that they like?
Very good recommended reading

i agree with that, you have to hear yourself from botton of your heart, from your core, there is where you real true is, no on somebody else. Been honest with us is the first step to know us for real.

Hello my friend. An interesting topic to know oneself I think it is one of the most difficult processes to achieve because since childhood we have been taught to look outward, I think even this time we are faced with the need to find in ourselves all the good and wonderful as well as virtues and defects with which we must move forward. When we reach a true knowledge of our being we can make of our life a true work of art.
