As millions of kite lovers throw themselves on the roof, flying waves cover the blue sky. On January 14, watch the sky change color like a rainbow in the bright sun after the rain and sparkle the glory of Uttarayan, as the sky of Gujarat transforms colorful kites.
About Uttarayan
Uttarayan (also known as Makar Sakranti in some parts of India) is the day when the sun begins to move north which marks the winter solstice. The days get longer, the sky clears and the air is cooler. A sense of anticipation, joy, and excitement grips all those celebrating the event of thanksgiving and doing fun things.
Gujarat celebrates 2,000 festivals every year! Among all these, the Uttarayan is one of the largest and longest-standing festivals In Gujarat, India, Uttarayan is a holiday that all families can meet outside. People of all ages from child to old fly kites from morning to evening. The dense canopy, the competition of love and excitement over the kite flying skills, and the delicious traditional Gujarati party are the hallmarks of the day.
History and Importance of Uttarayan
The excitement and excitement associated with kite flight across age groups, classes, and communities. Although Uttarayan focuses on the Hindu festival commemorating the awakening of the gods from their deep sleep, history says that India developed a rich kite-flying culture with the support of the Kings and 'Nawabs' who found the game fun and approachable. to demonstrate their power.
Trained aircraft were recognized as flying kites for kings. Gradually, art began to spread among the masses. Today, kite production is a complex business. It attracts the big names of the corporate world as kites offer the least expensive marketing opportunity. The stats are high and the competition prizes are great.
In the months leading up to the Uttarayan festival, homes in various suburbs of Gujarat turned into kite factories with all the family members doing something for the season's cottage business. Paper and sticks are cut, glue is shaken and thousands of kites are prepared in the market. The string is covered with a special glass powder and attached rice, all set to cut each other's strings and drop kites. Kite sizes range from nine inches to three feet.
Members of different communities without regard to the characters and beliefs are busy in the kite business. Whether they are rich or poor, the people enjoy the festival in their own way. The aerodynamic skill, dedication, and ingenuity of the kite and the aircraft are almost certainly religious in nature, sharpened at the level of art, though seemingly simple.
Ahmedabad: Kite Capital
Although the Kite Festival is celebrated throughout Gujarat, it is very exciting in the capital of Ahmedabad. The night before was a gas-powered business with the fast-paced business of buying and selling kites, with many amazing purchases in bulk. Patang Bazaar (kite market), located in Ahmedabad city center, is open 24 hours a day during the Uttarayan week. A visit to the Bazaar in the middle of the night proves beyond a doubt that all the people of the city are full of kites and swarms of streets and buy shares while chatting and enjoying the night.
Uttarayan is a time of endless excitement - in many pulse racing kite tournaments. There are many kites and kites, in all shapes and designs, but some stand out in their size and youth.
And the joy continues even in the dark. The night marks the arrival of lightbox kits, usually in a series-connected to one line, to be introduced into the sky. Known as tucked, these cats add a touch of splendor to the dark sky. In addition, the day was marked by Gujarat food/delicacies such as undhiyu (vegetable flavor), jalebi (sweets), til laddoo (sesame-seed sweets), and chikki for guests from different parts of the world.
International Kite Festival
Every year, the amazing fun that is associated with paper art kites brings people from far and wide - be it from Japan, Australia, Malaysia, the USA, Brazil, Canada, and European countries - to take part in the International Kite Festival.
