Hello friends

I want through this post to highlight the love and dedication to parents through their care in the stage of old age and the importance of working as a team with the family.

This is because I particularly have a very close experience with my mother's family, as she and her sisters are currently taking care of their 98 year old father. What stands out in these cases is that the caregivers are also seniors who are over 70 years of age.

This is an experience that can be made the most of because sometimes having the presence of loved ones at that age is not so frequent, having the presence of a parent is a blessing for the family and not everyone has the same opportunity. However, it can become a little complicated in different aspects, and not necessarily for lack of love and affection.

In the stage of old age, caregiving requires a lot of energy, dedication, love and represents a challenge for the caregiver since they have their own lives, routines, plans and they are also older adults facing different situations and in many cases illnesses.

Caring for parents in old age represents an opportunity to share new experiences and to give back all the love received, it represents the moment where roles are changed and family planning is very important, so it should not be seen as an obligation and should not be a reason for family conflicts as it impacts negatively on the emotional aspect of the parents.

Each family is unique and lives very different situations, however, there are several alternatives that can help in these cases. The important thing is to have the participation of all family members, work as a team and reach a consensus to avoid feelings of guilt and family fractures for not being involved in the care of the parents.

A good option is to provide care under a rotating system, where each caregiver can dedicate time, establishing schedules and conditions in agreement with the family to avoid emotional, physical and mental wear and tear. The important thing is that the caregiver does not forget about him/herself and his/her needs and can take care of his/her parents while maintaining healthy relationships.

There are many options that can be handled in this type of situation, the important thing is to guarantee their well-being, happiness and adequate attention to their needs without the situation becoming complicated and problematic.
