New COVID-19 Boosters Are Coming Soon After Labor Day — What to Know
Summer is almost over, which means colder weather is coming and more people will be spending time indoors in enclosed spaces where COVID can easily spread. To protect against the expected seasonal surge of COVID cases and reduce related deaths, the Biden administration plans to roll out booster shots to people 12 and older shortly after Labor Day.
The COVID-19 boosters have been reformulated to be more effective against the highly contagious omicron subvariant BA.5, which is responsible for almost 90 percent of new cases. The Food and Drug Administration expects to authorize the updated versions in time for the fall booster campaign.
