• When people live together permanently in a place, it is called human settlement. This is the first condition to adapt oneself to nature. The first step in human adaptation to the environment is settlement. Humans build human settlements to take advantage of the favorable conditions of nature and to protect themselves from adverse conditions. Different types of settlements of natural diversity have developed in different parts of the world, such as Eskimora ice houses in polar climates and most of the rural settlements in Bangladesh are also found living in Chauchala type houses. And in different cities of the world, high-rise buildings are being built by applying modern design and construction materials.

factors of settlement

• The topography is heavily influenced by the development of settlements. Farming can be done easily on flat lands, but it is not possible to do agricultural work in hilly areas as the land is uneven. If the settlement is created near the agricultural land for the convenience of travel.

availability of drinking water

• Pure water is the first and foremost human need for subsistence. That is why people build settlements in places where there is a certain availability of water. This is why human resources settle in the springs or in the natural way around desert and subtropical regions.

soil

• Human settlements are established depending on the fertile energy of the soil. Accumulated settlements are formed in fertile soil, but scattered settlements are formed when the soil is infertile. The effects of the soil have led to scattered settlements in Germany, Poland, Sweden, etc.

defense

• In ancient times people settled for accumulated settlements for the benefit of defense. People lived together to protect themselves from the beasts that stopped the attack of the external enemy. Because in ancient times there was no modern state for self-defense.

pasture

• Scattered settlements are commonly seen in grazing areas. Large areas are needed for scattering animals. As a result, they settle sporadically for their own benefit.

communication

• Settlements have been based on transportation since ancient times. Accumulated settlements have sprung up in places such as navigable areas along the river and in the plains. The city of Samarkand originated in the plains of Alexandria and Tajikistan on the banks of the Nile River in Egypt.
