I am a very hardcore fan or Leonardo Dicaprio. He has given some outstanding performances in many movies. Shutter Island is no exception.
This movie is complete package of suspense background music, strong screenplay and outstanding acting by Leo. I was completely hooked throughout the movie because of suspense and to know what might happen in the next moment.
Movie starts with Leo arriving at Island as detective. He is there to investigate disappearance of a patient responsible for murdering her children. Things look very fishy to him at first because hospital staff is not very co operative at first. He starts to get subliminal messages from patients to escape. Some places are kept off the books for investigate.
He does break into restricted areas and found stories about experiments being conducted on patients and brain control.
The movie takes a complete U-turn when it is revealed that it has been whole a drama from start to cure because he was insane patient himself. The ending is very twisting because many people have different perception about actual ending.
My opinion is that he does gain self-awareness of what happened and choose to go back to hospital because he was a monster in life outside the hospital.
