When the attackers target someone to attack, they usually choose someone who is an easy target. So what signal you are giving, that is important. People who are strong and have power, no one usually likes to get in trouble with them.
The attackers choose someone who is distracted and cannot do much to protect himself or herself. When you are outside walking, situational awareness can save the day.
There is nothing wrong with listening to something using earphones. But when you are listening to music, podcast or anything using earphones, you are not listening to what's going on around you.
And if your head is down on the phone, you are not looking around. The attackers can easily make you the target. Instead, if you look around and be aware of the situation you are in, the attackers will not find it easy to attack you.
Even if you are being attacked, you can make your move fast in order to defend yourself. So do not get distracted and see what's going on. If you sense something is wrong, you can do something instantly or get out of there.
In case you are not paying attention, someone can get close to you and attack you at any time. Before doing something to protect yourself, you have already got hit.
So what do you think of situational awareness when it comes to self defense? Do you train to be more aware when you learn martial arts? Please feel free to share your thoughts in the comment section.
