Often Carnatic music which is unique to the south of India is quite often underrated and does not get the recognition it deserves.
A music lover who knows how to sing also should definitely try to learn this genre or if he/she is into instrumental music, try the Carnatic songs. It is divine music and is simply pure and original.
Many artists have however tried to bring in the western and it is quite cool too. For example, the Mandolin is a foreign instrument and there are many artists who play the Carnatic songs with it.
