As a young child who grew from a church background. I learnt how to sing, sing songs like classical hymns and secular. First, I started by becoming familiar with musical notations.

And without me becoming familiar with musical notations, I won't be able to understand the beauty of songs. Know their rthyms and have the ability to differentiate a pleasant one from noises.

What are musical notations?

These are the doh, re, mi, fah, soh, la, ti, doh note we do hear. They are also known as solfa notes. They are 7 letters. And they are not alphabetically arranged, but when sang, it produces pleasant sounds.

How did I start?

My parents enroll me in the church choir. As a child then, I had mixed voices—soprano, alto, tenor and bass. It was hard to define which one would fit me best. And so when we are to carryout a presentation in Sunday services, I would be shouting, thinking I was doing my best.

From been a kid, I grew into puberty age where I had to join the rudiments. Rudiments is a special training for those willing to grow their musical voices and also read standard staffs or staves. Mostly, this materials: staffs or staves are used in some orthodox and mostly the pentecostal churches like Deeper life Bible church. Etc.

And so, I joined and the training started effectively.

All throughout week one I was learning and mastering how to read the staff or stave.

For Treble Staff or Stave:

• The staff or stave has five horizontal lines namely from the base: E - G - B - D - F.
• The staff or stave has four equal spaces namely from the base: F - A - C - E.
  So, Incase you won't be able to remember, just use this acronym:

For the staff space: Foolish Africa cannot eat or Father Akaniyene comes Easter.

For the staff lines: Emeka Gives Blessing Dog Feed

During week two, I learnt how to position musical solfas on the staff or stave accordingly.

During week three, I learnt how to read fresh staff or stave, using the beat readings:
4/4 = 4 crotchet beat in a bar in the staff. Meaning that, in each bar, there are 4 crotchet symbols on the staff representing different note depending on where it is position.

For instance, if it's place on line G, it means that line G becomes my doh. And to know that you're right with your answer, check the key signature. The first one was time signature. If the key signature is G. Then you're right. But if it's not G, then it's not doh.

Note: There are two kinds of Key signatures.

Flats and Sharp. Flats is like b. While Sharp is like #.

If you see one sharp (#), the key is G sharp key. And so, it shows that any note that begins at that spot is doh.

So if I'm to form a song, this is how it would look like.

• Jingle bell

mi mi mi
mi mi mi
mi soh
doh re mi
fah fah fah
mi mi mi
mi re ré ré mi re ...... soh (there's repetition).

• If it's rock of ages, it would be:

soh la soh mi
doh la soh
doh re mi
re doh ti doh

I did this for almost a year, and I achieved a milestone award. I didn't just practice, I stretched my voice. And by doing that, I was able to build my vocals. I could imaging myself singing with harmony, joy and gladness, because I truly gave in more time to this. It eventually became my hobby—a continual business, investment and something joyful.

Today I'm proud Music has taken me to places.
