The day i was really scared

Hello friends✌️✌️Fear is something we experience in one way or another. For some it becomes a traumatic experience while for others it is just something they'll always remember. Thanks to @senehasa for letting us express ourselves through this contest.This is my story.

What was happening? Who was with you?

It was 31st December 2012 at midnight. Celebrations were ongoing for the new year 2013. As usual, in my community there were firecrackers and light works sounding so thunderous and even nerve wrecking when it came unexpectedly after some few minutes of silence. I've always heard the sound of firecrackers and I even got used to it at some point because I've been hearing it like for some few weeks toward that december 31st. Still, that sound I was heard that night was way too loud and abnormal for an ordinary firecracker. I was in junior secondary school then and so young. I was lying in bed with my siblings who were supposedly sleeping not even knowing what was going on.

I felt so frightened and confused. I tried to shut my eyes but the sound of the thunderous "firecrackers" would force me to open it up again in fear. I covered the blanket over my head in a bid to calm the fear yet it proved to be of no use.

Alas! It was a robbery attack. A nearby petrol station just a stone throw from our house was attacked by robbers who took advantage of the firecrackers to shoot and carry out their evil intent. Maybe they wanted to steal some petrol or something. Who knows? I just took cover under the blanket still and tried to calm myself down. I was safely secured in the house of course and sleeping between my siblings so I took comfort in that and hoped that sleep would come my way

How did things end?

I heard the comforting siren of the police who invaded the robbery scene and dealt with the robbers. The police stayed around the area all through the night. What a relief that was.

Soon everything calmed down and I could enjoy my sleep again though it was already nearing morning. The next morning it was confirmed that indeed it was a robbery attack and we were all thankful to the police for their swift intervention.

How did this moment stay with you?.

Well, it was just a scary night I guess and I haven't felt as scared as I did that night. I hope I don't have such an experience again. I don't feel traumatized but it is just an experience I can't forget.
