“Steemit Engagement Challenge - S13/W5 - 90's vs 2K"

Hope you all are doing well in your life and living a healthy life. This week's contest Steemit Engagement Challenge / S13W5- “90's vs 2K" made me nostalgic, as I am 1972 born so have a lot of memories from 80s, 90s and 2k... to share here. I will try my best to share my experiences and memories here.

If you lived in both generations, like 90s and 2k, which one did you like the most?

It will be injustice to rate one above another. In my opinion, anybody live in his/her present and enjoy the life with whatever available at that time. As we grow up and look behind than a comparison comes in the mind that how we have lived in past without facilities. E.g. today life will be difficult without 2 and 4 wheeler, but I remember that when I was just 15 years in 1987 I used to go to school about 7 km far on bicycle! It was just routine and never thought that it is very difficult task. But now if we think about that it seems a difficult task because era has changes.

How is school life now, and what was it like in the nineties?

It is totally changed! I can compare my school life with my son and daughter's school life. In our school life, we only had books, teacher, and parents to learn anything. Most of the time, we buy old books, as books were not modified every year. As I mention in the post, bicycle was the main mode of travel to school although bus services were also available in 90s. I still member that only one student in the whole school used to ride scooterin 1987, but I never thought that I also should have a scooter to go to school because it was utmost luxury at that time.

In today's era the school life has changed totally, but again I will say here that it is normal for today's kids same as it was normal for us at that time. We feel the difference only after passing the time. Pattern of study has totally changed. Today's generation have access to faster knowledge as compare to 90s era. Although there is no substitute of books and teacher, but today's students are not dependent on that only, they have far more access of information than they actually required. Today's generation is living in a time of overflow of information.

Compare 90s entertainment with 2K entertainment.

Entertainment in 80s and 90s

I remember the time when television was not introduced, it was before 1984. We used to listen radio. My father tune radio every morning, 1st some religious songs, then some filmy and then news. There was no other source of news other than radio and newspaper. Before TV era, I also remember that some radio station used to telecast filmy stories and people listen and enjoy.

That was the time of talkies where we used to go to watch movies with family. Sometimes municipality also made arrangement to showcase movies in our area in open in the night and that was super enjoyment time. That was the time of gramophone also, we had a gramophone at our home and that required disk to listen. It was very costly affair and had limitations as it was not possible to bought so many disks to listen varieties of music, so we used to listen repeatedly same disks in free time.

Circus and magic shows were also the craziest entertainment that time as rarely they come to our city, and we never missed that entertainment.

TV was introduced in our city in 1984 and that time colour TV was a luxury item, so my father initially bought one black and white TV. On Sunday's Bollywood movies were broadcasted, and we used to watch not only with family but with neighbours also. It was like a theatre experience at home. On any Sunday if any popular film was telecasted, gathering become huge and unknown persons also come and watch the film. That was really the craziest phase of entertainment.

In 90s gramophone was gradually replaced by casset player then CD and VCR were also introduced. Cable TV also came in the 90s, which changes the defecation of entertainment. In 90s entertainment become more accessible with wider choices.

Entertainment in 2k

Although computer was introduced in 90s but started to become popular in 2k. Computer totally revolutionized the education as well as entertainment. When I started to use a computer in the late 90s, it was a thrilling experience. Internet was introduced in early 2k. Soon, internet become a major source of information and entertainment. Internet gave us freedom to listen songs and watching movies of our choice. Now for entertainment dependence on TV reduced. Meanwhile, mobile phone was also become accessible to a certain class of people.

Initially internet and mobile phone was not that much popular for entertainment but as the time passed smartphone was introduced. The combination of smartphone and internet was one of the biggest revolution in the history. This made the world a village. Now this small device have become a must-have for all for communication, information, education, and entertainment. Later social media came into existence and one step ahead it has completely changed the definition of entertainment. Now the generation need not to go anywhere for entertainment, everything is in their hand.

What has not changed

There are few things which has not changed for entertainment, like going out for picnic and leisure with family and friends. Watching movie with family and friends in theatre (now multiplex).

There were so many indoor and outdoor games popular at that time. I am not remembered that I ever felt that there is nothing to play. That was the time we invent something from nothing to play. That games were simple yet entertaining. My favourite was Kanche. It was like addiction for me to play Kanche. There were other outdoor games which are not seen much nowadays are Hopscotch, Kho-Kho, Hide and seek, Seven Stone, Langdi, Gilli Danda, Spinning Top(Lattu) etc. Speciality of these games are that it doesn't require any expensive resources and are eco-friendly as well.
Other than this we used to play Business, Snake and Ladder, Ludo, Chess, Chaupat, Chinese Chackers etc as indoor games.

Sports of 2k

There are some old games which has become forgotten but opposite to entertainment there is not much changes in sports, the only changes are technology. Most of the old games are modified and powered by technology. Most of the indoor games have become available online like Ludo, Snake & Ladder are the most popular old games which has same craze today also in online player. Other than old games, so many new games have been invented, thanks to technology and internet.

Today is the time while sitting at your home you can play with any player around the world. Even so may outdoor games version are available at home like cricket, tennis etc. and gives the same excitement as in the playground but of course lack in physical fitness requirement, they are just like video games. Outdoor games/sports also have become more technologically advanced, but their essence is the same as before.

The latest addition in online gaming is blockchain game. These games are not just game, it involves real money and crypto (Here I am not talking about casino). On Steem blockchain Steem Monster was the 1st game launched, and now it is known as Splinterlands. It is very popular among gamers.

Sweets from 80s and 90s

I remember that on my birthday my mom generally used to prepare traditional sweets like Besan Laddo, Mohanthal, Gulabjamun, Halwa, Jalebi etc. There was no tradition of bakery items in late 80s and early 90s. Recipes were transferred from one generation to other via mother to daughter and so on.

Sweet from 2k

After globalization and internet revolution, our kitchens are also flooded with recipes around the world. Now the people are more adventurous in eating habit and do not hesitate to try various sweets from any culture in the world. Bakery sweets have so common in today's generation that no celebration become complete without cake and other items.

Not only we adopted sweets around the globe, but our traditional recipes are also modified a lot as people are more experimental than ever before and showcasing their innovation via various social media plateforms.

Conclusion

Change is a nature's rule, today will be past tomorrow and tomorrow will be more technologically advanced. Remembering the past is always nostalgic and during writing the post I also become nostalgic but enjoyed it to share here.
