Power up is a process whereby we lock up some portions or all of our liquid Steem to Steem power for a very long period of time before making use of it. So, it's as the Same time as saving our money in a fixed deposit in the bank. Any money in fix deposit can't easily be withdrawn. It might take some period of times or years before it will be accessible. Before one puts his/her money in a fixed deposit, their must be reason for that and, it must be for future use or future investment's. Now, does locking up our steem have any benefits?? Let's see.

When we have enough steem power in our wallet, it helps us to support or strengthen the Steemit ecosystem. How? We have the power to support fellow steemians who produce quality articles. Though we can upvote other's even though we don't have enough steem power. But, it can't add any value to them or we ourselves. Remember, Steemit is a win win platform. When you give value to others through upvote, you enrich yourself at the same time. Power up is good.

Another reason why we need to save or power up our steem is for future use. So many people have achieved a lot through Steemit. Some have their own houses, car, businesses and more through Steemit. Yeah, they saved or accumulated many steem power. And when their is need for them to use their assets, they power it down and solve their personal problems. So, save I'm dry season for raining days.

For the newbies and poeple who is still finding it hard to power, here is what you need to do. Login to your Steemit wallet using your active key. Close to your liquid, their is a tiny black down arrow there, tap on it, a page will open and you select power up which happens to be the third options.

Once you select power up, another 2 dashboard will open indicating your username at the first one. Then, on the second one is where you will put the amount of steem you needed. Once you put the amount, the power up boton will be activated. You immediately tap on it and you will be asked to confirm by clicking OK. Once you do that, all the liquid Steem will be moved to Steem power. And the power up is done. Hope the screenshots will be of great help to you.
