Greetings to you my lovely friends and amazing steemians, trusting God we are all doing great? Thanks @senehasa for carefully selecting these three words; "See, Home and Joy", to write on. These words are unique and speaks volume.
In this contest, I'll be focusing on "home".
A "home" by definition is a place where one dwells, a place of abode. This could either be on a temporary or permanent basis. A home can either be a house or any form of structure which provides comfort and shelter to anyone who seeks refuge in it.
A home can be viewed from different perspectives. A home can be viewed as a residence where family members dwell, it can also be viewed as an institution such as hospitals where the sick are being cared for, homes for the elderly, rehabilitation homes, amongst others. A home can also be viewed as a place of origin. This could either be ones country home or state of origin or village where he or she comes from.
Most times, we only feel comfortable and relaxed when we are in our own residential homes. I am a victim of such. Anytime I'm away from home for maybe official duties, the next couple of days will be great war for me as I'll have to go through a lot of battles such as inability to sleep at night cos the bed and room settings doesn't feel and look like mine, bloated stomach cos I always find it difficult to use the convenience outside my home, not knowing what to eat and having migranes from the lack of sleep. Little wonder we always tell our visitors to feel at home. It's a way of telling them to feel relaxed.
Viewing a home as a structure that provides shelter and comfort to people living in it, I will say most of what we have today are structures without a home because what is a house when one can't find comfort in it? What is a house when there is no peace? Many atimes, family members avoids their own house because of the so much troubles in it. A man staying at work for late hours not because he is busy or has a lot on his desk but he is only trying to avoid his nagging wife.
Children playing cheerfully in the sitting room will scatter and run to their rooms pretending to be sleeping at the sound of their dad's vehicle just so they won't become a victim of his hot temper and blame games. The wife will always soak her pillow in tears because the husband has decided to turn her to a punching back? What indeed is a house without a home?
Many atimes, we travel to our country home or villages with joy and happiness on our faces, hoping to reunite with our loved ones but what we often get as welcome is a rude shock of our lives. We are being treated as total strangers. This usually leaves us in awe and utmost surprise cos where you are regarding as a home is no longer a home. With each step you take, you are being very not to step on any mines planted on your path. What then is a home within a shelter and comfort? Little wonder most children have never been to their villages and parents are not willing to take their kids to go to the village cos what is a village without a home?
