Greetings! My fellow steemians, it is another week of the Steemit engagement challenge. Though my entry to this contest topic "Most Popular Game of My Country" is late. Apologies for that lolz 😁. I greatly appreciate @hindwhale for this exciting theme. This week's theme is one of the forces of unity all around the world. I'm so excited to write. Ride with me as I discuss about the most popular game in my country.....

Describe What Sport/Game is Popular The Most In Your Country?

Whenever I hear about sports, the first thing that pops up in my mind is the reuniting of people all around and the entertainment. I am a proud citizen of the Federal Republic Of Nigeria. I am also a big fan of the football game. If you should ask anyone in my country who relates more with sporting activities in the country, he or she will tell you that Football is the most popular game in Nigeria.

The history of football can be tracked down to China around the third century BC. It was said that there were mentions of game resembling football in the military at that time. In 1892, the game was formally known in America as a sport.

Football in Nigeria is as older than the country itself lolz. Football was first introduced in 1904 and then, the first football match in Nigeria was held. In 1950, this game became the country's National Game. The Nigeria Football Federation, in 1990, created the Nigeria Professional Football League.
The league was created with the aim of expanding the knowledge of the sport nationwide. The league consists of teams from the 36 states of the country.

As of July 28 2023, Nigeria Super Eagles 🦅 was ranked 6th in Africa and 40th in the world by FIFA. They were ranked 4th in the 1994 FIFA world cup for reaching the round of 16. The highest ever achieved by any African team.

Nigerians are really blessed in many ways. In football, Nigeria has made many football legends like Kanu Nwankwo, J J Okocha in time past and players Like Victor Oshimen, Sam Obinsaya, Winfred Ndidi, Ahmed Musa amongst others. The past and current players, has continuously compete for international title and also compete in Europe particularly England 🏴󠁧󠁢󠁥󠁮󠁧󠁿.

Is That Game Played in International Competition Like The Olympics or Other World Championships?

Yes! Football or rather soccer was introduced into the Olympics games in 1904 as the first team sports included in the Olympic games. Since 1908, the game has been held at Olympic Games. Football also have a world championship organized by FIFA every four years. Continental Championship like The African Cup of Nations, Copa América are also hosted.

Do you consider that your players are world-class? if yes, name a few of them

Talking about world-class, Nigeria players has been able to hold international recognitions.
Years back, we had legendary players like Jay Jay Okocha who played for the German league at the age of 19 and gained international recognition, Kanu Nwankwo who played for Inter Milan of Italy.

Presently, we experienced joy as one of our National players With the name Victor Osimhen was crowded 👑 the King of Napoli, we also have players like Ahmed Musa, Obafemi Martins, Alex Iwobi and the likes of them.

Is your Country's Favorite Game and The Country's National Game The Same or different?

The National Game and The Favorite Game of My Country are the same. Football was officially declared the Country's National Game in 1950.
