My country Nigeria is not only the largest black nation but also in the whole of Africa my country history is one that has been a source of learning to the whole world. Beginning from prehistoric civilization up to present day realizations, the Nigerian experience is a tale of indomitability, versatility and tenacity.
Indeed the struggle against colonialism which had active leaders such as Herbert Macaulay and Nnamdi Azikiwe was a significant event in Nigeria. Believe and sacrifice made African nations to demanding independence which was the key to controlling their own course. Nigerian independence struggle provided example for other African states, which people are capable a lot when they unite.
The Nigerian Civil War that raged from 1967 to 1970 was another lesson the world needed regarding the need to forgive . Nonetheless, the war oversaw a period of construction and state-formation consequently. The attempts made after the wars carried out to regain and rebuild the nations also apply the principles of conflict solving and rebuilding a nation.
Nigeria has also having made a good impact in the art and culture. Chinua Achebe, Wole Soyinka, Ben Okri and other literary masters of African origin have placed Africa’s art and experience on the world map. Afrobeat, moved by the legendary Fela Kuti, has spread to the entire world of music affecting Paul McCartney and Peter Gabriel and many others and Brian Eno.
Besides, the Nigerian entrepreneurship vision and flexibility have remained productive and reactive in the crucible. Information and communication technology has continued to thrive in the country throughout the recent years, some of its sectors such as the fintech and e-commerce sectors has received international attention among the most vibrant sectors in the country. On this note, the following are some of the Nigerian startups that have the potentials of developing the African economy; Interswitch, Paystack and Jumia.
Nigeria’s History has also educate the world on how cultural heritage should be preserved. Due to cultural diversity with over 250 ethnic groups, the country has been producing a new wave of artists, writers and musicians. The Nigerian film industry or Nollywood has grown to international fame by churning out thousands of films that reflect African viewpoint.
Therefore, the Nigeria history has given the world aetutor on courage, determination and the significance of culture. So, the country’s story is still unfolding and unveils significant ideas for the people of the world as well as it is one of the global leaders revealing the opportunities and facing difficulties at the same time. It is for these reasons that history lovers should be interested in the study of Nigeria because, with all its chaos and obvious paradoxes, the country has a lot to teach people about human experience and collective endeavor.
