Bendi Language which is the native language of the Bekwarra local government area of Cross River State is the language that I am so proud of.

The reason why I am proud of the Bendi language is that it is my native language that I know how to speak very well and it is one of the few languages in Cross River State Nigeria that the majority of the people in the state are eager to learn. People have been contemplating that the bendi language should be taught in schools and promoted as a Nigerian native language because of how easy and understandable the language is.

Can you tell the history of the language you are proud of, and how it became a language and became common among the people?

The people of Bekwarra and Cross River State as a whole value and respect the tradition, and customs of Bekwarra which is the bendi language and has a rich tradition of storytelling, that conveys cultural values and moral lessons.

The bendi language is a language that originated from the Bedi, bewo and blend languages. The Bedi, is a language the first language of the people ancestors of Bekwarra, whereas the Bewo language, is the language spoken by the people who previously lived in Bekwarra land where Bekwarra people are living today Today bendi has become the common language among the people.

To avoid miscommunication in language and create effective communication we can do the following which we have shared below.

  • We will need to be clear and concise. This means we need to use accurate, simple, and familiar language when speaking to avoid jargon, slang, and unnecessary information that is out of point.

  • We will need to be mindful of nonverbal cues. This means will need to pay attention to the facial expressions and body language of whoever is speaking.

  • We will need to listen actively. This means we should give full attention to whosoever is speaking and put aside any form of distractions.

  • We will have to ask questions for clarification. Ask questions politely to avoid assumptions and be respectful.

I am inviting: @dove11, @simonnwigwe, and @ruthjoe
