Which language are you proud of and why?

My mother tongue is Tamil which is considered by historians to be the oldest language in the world. Tamil is known as the world's first language, which has a script. The main language of the Dravidian languages is Tamil. Unlike other northern languages or other Dravidian languages, it did not come from Sanskrit.

Tamil has a very long grammar tradition. Some of the Tamil literature is said to be thousands of years old. However, the Tamil works that have been found are written in the Brahmi script dating back to 300 BC. Since they were written on palm leaves (through repeated copying) or transmitted orally, it is very difficult to calculate the dates of even the oldest works.

However, linguistic evidence suggests that the oldest works may have been composed between the 2nd century BC and the 3rd century AD.

Tolkappiyam is a complete grammar book of Tamil. From it, many grammar books like Yappilakanam and Thandiyalangaram have emerged. The sweetness of the Tamil language is in all its aspects, such as simplicity, clarity, antiquity, and breadth. Those who have seen, heard, and tasted it have praised its glory, both literary and scholarly.

The Thirukkural, which is the universal scripture written in Tamil, is one of the eighteen sacred books. The reason why such a special Thirukkural is celebrated by everyone today is because it is a universal scripture that transcends ethnic and religious differences.

Can you tell the history of the language you are proud of, how it became a language and became common among the people?

The oldest language of Tamil available today is the Tolkappiyam. This is a book explaining the details of the grammar of ancient language. Some parts of it are believed to have been written around 200 BC. Evidence excavated in 2005 has pushed the Tamil written language back to around 500 BC. The most notable piece of literature written in ancient Tamil is the Silappathikaram, dated to 200–300 AD.

The Tamil language has deep historical roots dating back thousands of years. It belongs to the Dravidian language family, spoken primarily in South India and parts of Sri Lanka. Tamil is renowned as one of the classical languages of India and has a rich literary tradition dating back to ancient times.

Tamil is the official language of the Indian state of Tamil Nadu and is one of the 22 national languages recognized under the Constitution of India. Tamil is also recognized as one of the three official languages of Sri Lanka. Tamil is also recognized as one of the national languages of Singapore, and Tamil has constitutional recognition in South Africa.

In addition, following the efforts of several Tamil organizations and scholars in India and abroad, especially George L. Hart, Head of the Tamil Department at the University of California, Berkeley, in 2004, Tamil was recognized as a classical language by the Government of India. Tamil is the only first Indian language that has been recognized in this way. This announcement was made by the President of India, Dr. Abdul Kalam, during a joint session of both Houses of the Indian Parliament on 6 June 2004.

How to avoid miscommunication in language and how to create effective communication?

In personal relationships, no matter the language, the ability to communicate clearly and empathically is fundamental to building trust and fostering deep connections. While learning a language fluently allows individuals to openly communicate their thoughts and feelings, instantly resolve misunderstandings, and constructively resolve conflicts, creating an environment where emotional intimacy can flourish.

Clear and unambiguous communication is essential to ensure that your message is accurately understood. Effective communication goes beyond words, it's about how we convey messages through nonverbal cues. Mastering these fundamental aspects improves understanding and strengthens connections.

Pronounce each word clearly and correctly. Practice difficult words and sounds regularly to ensure clear pronunciation. Use online resources or language apps to correct tricky pronunciations. Speaking too quickly can lead to mumbling or slurred speech. Slow down your speech to give yourself time to enunciate each word clearly. Do a vocal warm-up before important conversations or presentations. This will help loosen your vocal cords and improve your pronunciation.
