Nature of damage

larva cause damage by consuming foliage. They can damage maize plants in nearly all growing stages. Young larvae initially consume leaf tissue from one side, leaving the opposite epidermal layer intact. By the third in star larvae begin to make holes in leaves and eat from edge of the leaves inward. Fall armyworm will feed by burrowing through the husk on the side of the ear.

Managements

1.follow early planting or grow early maturity varieties.
2.Collect and destroy all the larvae found in soils and crops
3.Use of black light traps and pheromone traps.
4.Spray Azadiraction 5%EC @3-5ML/L OR Cypermethrin 25%EC @0.5ml/l of water.
