It's another day of the week and I'm happy to join the contest in this community today which is hosted by @deepak94. The contest talks about Blockchain in Government Services. This is a wonderful topic that if looked at indepthly we will see why blockchain should be used in government service.

Firstly, when we talk about blockchain we are referring to a decentralized ledger that has to do with the interconnection of computers worldwide aside from the decentralized nature of a blockchain, the interconnection, is also transparent and it is immutable.

These are a few qualities associated with blockchain technology. Other qualities are not mentioned but the above-mentioned are the major quality that makes blockchain technology stand out. Having gotten a good knowledge of what blockchain is all about we can then shift it to a government use case.

In this context, we wish that the government adopts the use of blockchain in land registries and tax collection which are major aspects of government revenue, and also where those working in the government cheat those who they are dealing with. So this in summary is where the major corruption of a country lies.

Land Registries

As a Nigerian, the Land Act decree of the 1999 constitution as stated by the Nigerian government is that all land belongs to the government. If that is so it means that before anyone will own a land he or she must register with the government.

Now, this is where blockchain is supposed to play a vital role in reducing or eliminating corruption because where I live at the moment we always face land disputes almost every time. Families fight over land, villages fight over land and even individuals fight over land.

Recently the fight over these lands has led to serious bloodshed around where I stay at the moment. So this is because everyone just comes out and claims that they are the real owners of the land and that they bought it and also they will come up. With some documents declaring that they are the owners of the land.

With the help of blockchain technology, lands will be registered and when ownership transfer takes place it will be updated in such a way since the blockchain is decentralised before you go for any land you will see the real owner since the land is registered. With such an act the crisis we are facing at the moment, we may not face it again.

Tax collection

Another aspect where the blockchain is mostly needed is the aspect of tax collection or generally finance. You will agree with me that it was due to lapses with the centralized banking system that the decentralized came to the limelight.

Tax collection has always been an issue in most countries and mine is not an exception because we face more issues currently than ever before considering the economic hardships and the inflation rate of the country.

Before those who collected these tasks were sincere and even if they wished to cheat the government they did so in a way that no one would suspect anything today most people work for their pocket instead of the government because all they get they always use for themselves instead of sending to the government.

So if blockchain technology is adopted in this area, the government will have enough revenue which is generated from tax payments and they will use this money to settle the pressing needs of the locality or the nation at large.

Also, people who are paying this tax will see the record of the money they are paying since it will be transparent enough for all to see. This way their records of what they have paid will always reflect and they will know how much was generated and what the money is used for whether it is worth it or not.

Conclusion

Blockchain adoption is going to indeed eliminate corruption in the country in both aspects we have discussed above if the government of the country gives this a trial. Since the coming of blockchain and cryptocurrency, we haven't heard much about corruption in the sector since everything is decentralized and transparent for all to see. You can't lie about anything here.
