Hello Steemians, it is a great to be part of this contest where I get to write about voting in my country, Nigeria and also get to learn how voting works in few other countries.
As earlier stated, the name of my country is Nigeria and I am a citizen by birth, fully eligible to vote too.
Nigeria practice Democracy, a system of government where the people fully controls who is their leader. Democracy being the government of the people, by the people and for the people means in a lay man's understand that the government is made by the people and the people make this government through the process of voting. Therefore, voting is a very important aspect of the democratic system of government.
Voting System in Nigeria:
In Nigeria, the body incharge of election is the Independence National Electoral Commission (INEC). They are in charge of everything that concerns election, they organize the election and they determine how they want it to be.
To be eligible to vote and be voted for, the person must be a verified citizen of Nigeria and also be up to 18 years old. Once you are eligible, you get registered and you receive your voters card after you have applied for one. With that, you can vote during elections.
How election is held in Nigeria:
Election is held in Nigeria every four years, a president or a governor can only lead for two tenures meaning No president or governor can lead for more than 8 years.
During election, ballot boxes and papers are sent to different polling units across the country by INEC. Eligible citizens go to the polling unit they registered to cast their votes. After everyone is done casting their votes. INEC gathers the results and the Chairman of INEC reads it for the whole country.
The candidate with the highest votes emerges as the winner and the President-elect for the Presidential election but for the governorship election, the candidate with the highest votes in his or her state will emerge as the winner and governor-elect of that state. They remain President-elect and Governor-elect till they are sworn in officially then they can officially be called President or Governor.

It's true about how the election are being conducted by the INEC. But one thing about the INEC is that they collect bribe sometimes and that is why we are suffering to day.
