Understanding the term PEACE

The term peace has been a commonly used word, especially in war-prone areas. It can be viewed and discussed from different perspectives, but we should know it has to do with where there's harmony and a complete absence of conflict. A situation where there is a free rancor situation. A typical virtue and gift when viewed from the Christian space. Buddhism would ascribe it to be a stop to suffering.

Types of Peace

Given the dimension in which peace can be perceived and felt, it can be categorized into different forms;

  1. Personal Peace:
    This is one of its kind found to happen to us directly. This is the internal state of consciousness, which stipulates we are emotionally at rest, mentally stable, and satisfied. In achieving personal peace, we have to work on our stress management and be mindful of all that directly and indirectly affect us.

  2. Social Peace:
    In this aspect, we find injustice, inequality, and discrimination, which clearly show a loss of peace (social peace). Therefore, whern there is social justice where everyone is treated rightly without any form of less treatment, we tend to have social peace.

  3. Political Peace:
    This is where the world comes in. World peace simply signifies the global integration of all countries. In recent times, the world has continued to suffer from restfulness and destruction due to a lack of peace. A typical example is the Russian and Israeli invasions of Ukraine and Palestine. Though the United Nations (UN) has been seen to lead the peacekeeping missions, there's enough to be done to achieve the desired Political peace.

Importance of Peace

Having peace in all we do is vital to the development of both human and societal values. It is an enabler of growth and development.

  1. Economic Growth:
    Where there is peace and harmony, we have tremendous economic boom and growth. This helps improve the overall production and financial activities within space. Just as we know, conflict is an inhibitor to the desired economic growth.

  2. Social Development:
    Our children do not need to be raised in a war and conflict-prone environment. Education and healthcare are the most improved in a socially peaceful environment.

  3. Emotional Stability:
    We do not need to continually habitat in a conflict space as this destabilizes us. When our stress level is reduced and anxiety on the low, this helps us attain emotional stability.

Challenges of Peace

Despite the importance of peace, we still come to understand that there are observed challenges.

  1. Conflict and Violence:
    When we find civil unrest, wars, and insurgencies, these are threats to peace. They create more unrest and tension that undermine peace.

  2. Inequality and Injustice:
    This is one enemy in our social environment. We have to treat people with value and without less regard. When this is done, on the contrary, it builds up a grudge, enmity, and nonpeaceful coexistence.

  3. Environmental Issues:
    Climate change effects and resource scarcity could be a trigger to our peaceful coexistence. It makes it even harder to achieve peace in such situations.

Promoting Peace

In achieving and promoting peace within our environment, we have to be intentional in doing some of the listed points;

  1. Educational Consciousness:
    Teachings on Peace and conflict resolution should be deliberately done to speed up means of achieving peace. This would help foster peaceful coexistence and the essence of peace from early childhood.

  2. Dialogue and Negotiation:
    We disagree to agree. This is a tool that should be used while trying to create a consensus among different parties. Using dialogue and negotiating within ourselves is far better than resorting to violence.

  3. Community Engagement:
    This is one way to handle grassroots conflicts. Through these means, we can handle misunderstandings from their local source without creating unnecessary tension.

In conclusion, peace is essentially in our everyday activities. Both as an individual and in society, it is an enabler to personal and societal coexistence, as well as the propeller towards achieving economic growth and development.
