The plan for this space is exactly what the group title says: 'My Mind is on Music.' If that fits you at the moment, then you're in the right place. Feel free to post in this community if you want—but make sure to keep your images copyright-free and your posts plagiarism-free.

So we've decided to start a top 50 videos countdown today that will stretch out over the next month and a half. Remember, this is not a countdown of the top 50 songs of all time; this is a countdown of the top 50 videos.

Today's music video is 'Don't Speak' by No Doubt. The video (directed by Sophie Muller) was the band's introduction to fame despite being on its third album, and is the single biggest reason the world learned who lead singer Gwen Stefani was. The song was also a bit of a true story in motion after it was re-written as it detailed the real-life breakup of Stefani and bassist Tony Kanal after originally being a love song.

The song ranked number one on the Billboard Hot 100 Airplay chart during a 16-week period in 1996 and 1997. Since it was never officially released as a commercial single, it was never listed on Billboard's overall Top 100.

The actual video (which was nominated for Best Pop Performance by a Duo or Group at the 40th Grammy Awards), showcased the band's ongoing personal relationships. It also went a bit further in some scenes, insinuating that there was some tension with how Stefani was being accepted by the rest of the world while the band appeared to have been ignored. Ironically, Stefani would go on to be a pop music mega-star while the rest of the band pretty much fell into obscurity after each attempting solo careers once the band went on hiatus.

The real-life breakup between Gwen Stefani and Tony Kanal was emotionally taxing for the band. Kanal originally didn’t want to release 'Don’t Speak' because of how personal it was, but the song’s raw honesty resonated with audiences. The video captures this emotional weight, making the tension feel real because, in many ways, it was. The band has acknowledged that the breakup, along with the pressures of fame, was a difficult time for them, and this tension came across in both the song and the video.
