Over the past few years, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, historically known for appreciating the best Rock and Roll acts of all time, has veered into another direction in terms of actual inductions.
This year alone, the establishment enshrined'Kool and the Gang,' 'A Tribe Called Quest,' Mary J. Blige, and Cher. While each of those groups/artists has songs I've enjoyed over the years (especially Tribe), none are what I would call "Rock and Roll." On the other hand, Ozzy Osbourne was finally inducted as a solo artist, so there's that.
The music "powers that be" should come together to create a music Hall of Fame so that all acts can be equally appreciated and this mockery can stop. My issues probably stem from the list of actual rock bands that have been and continue to be ignored and left off. The bands in the list below ALL influenced an entire generation of music.
BIGGEST SNUBS
New York Dolls
Chic
The Smiths
Iron Maiden
Grand Funk Railroad
Ronnie James Dio
Devo
Blue Oyster Cult
The Carpenters
Motley Crue
Bad Company
The Monkees
Jethro Tull
Sonic Youth
John Coltrane
Motorhead
Pixies
Thin Lizzy
Warren Zevon
Chuck Willis
Brian Eno
Joe Coker
Alice in Chains
Soundgarden
The Smashing Pumpkins
I could go on for days discussing the reasons why several of the bands above deserve to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Some have had personal differences with those in control, and others have been nominated several times over and keep getting left out. Whatever the issue, it lessons this once great collection of acknowledgment with each passing year and class.
Below is Ozzy's induction from this year...
To keep the genre alive, we need to celebrate more actual rock acts this way. I see no issue with praising other forms of music, but it seems a little "off" to place them in the same Hall with rock legends. Each genre deserves its own "Hall of Fame."
Ask for it, expect it...hell, DEMAND IT!!
There are a lot of bands in your list that I don't recognize by name (though I might likely recognize their music). Of the ones I do recognize, I agree that most of them belong there.
I'm not sure I'd classify The Carpenters as "Rock and Roll", though. I'd put them in with your first group. I liked their music (I had one or two of their albums on 8-track tape) - and it was definitely influential, but it doesn't really feel like rock to me.
Really big snub: Steve Miller was inducted as a solo artist in 2016. That's a travesty.

I would have sworn that DIO had a star...?! And Iron Maiden. And Jethro Tull. (Why am I hearing flute sounds right now...? ;-)) And Brian Eno. And, and... - they're not immortalised there? That's just disgraceful. I also like listening to unknown stuff, but that would never have happened without this guard!
