It makes a difference if you follow people or at least know some names which you can check (post - replies - comments - replies - comments.).
If you read/post yourself you might see interesting links/names which I save (also to vote on later or check on).
Next I start the checking comment - replies and look for new names. I also search for hashtags (mainly use them) which makes it easier to find something interesting/creative.
I must say with two works faster than with three. No fights, extra checks, hours wasted chatting explaining and I have a better partner now. If not it's stress stress and stress and all you can do is trying to correct what a team member did.
A good Sunday

Sounds like you've done the same thing I did; which was to find creative ways around the site not being very user-friendly. I also found going to a user's profile and clicking on "Friends Feed" is also helpful in finding new people.
For us, it was more about being burnt out and running short on time. Having my best friend as my teammate made things easier, I'm sure. We were able to sync up styles somewhat and do things with a "live" document online to keep track of where we were. Made it simple...but we struggled the first couple of days until we worked out a routine/system. I'd be open to doing it again.
However, it doesn't look like they've been using two-person teams anymore in the last few months. I seem to remember reading them say they'd rather use three-person teams.
