1 Picture 1 Story Week #75

Steem greetings @everyone and welcome to my blog as I share ideas on the topic “1 picture 1 story”. My story will focus on the devastating effects of climate change on people in my community further compounded by the effects of war on climate change.

We have been living in a conflict area for over 8 years now and we do not know when it will end. One thing is certain it is easy to start a war but very difficult to end it because warmongers are benefiting from it and would not want it to end anytime soon.

Most of the streams and rivers in my community are drying up. Inhabitants suffer severe water shortages and rely on the polluted stream water for survival. Due to the conflict, waste management companies cannot operate freely due to constant attacks on their trucks and personnel by the separatist fighters.

Inhabitants are left with no option but to manage their waste by themselves. Most of them have little or no knowledge about waste management. They turn to dump their waste on the same streams where they managed to survive.

Some of the inhabitants turn to burning their waste if they cannot locate a stream to dump it. These have devastating effects on climate change and also affect the environment and water pollution.

Educating the masses on the effects of dumping waste or poor management of waste via burning by civil society organisations is a waste of time and resources because of the conflict. This goes with the saying that “…when 2 elephants are fighting, only the grass will suffer”. The grass is suffering indeed and what can we say, only God will rescue us from these warmongers.
