And the old ones... They are happiest in December. Not the children, not the young people, not the young parents or those with one or two gray locks in their hair, but the fathers and mothers. Look at the holidays through the eyes of the old. You will find the deep wet tear of boundless and strongest love. There is no equal. Because for them it is life and death. Standing on the threshold, curled up in the corner or finally sitting on the sofa, they always find that place in the room from which they will see everyone best and hear everything the loudest. They will absorb every word, every letter, every smile - from the cooing of the first great-grandchild to the deep proud tone of the son with gray hair, who recently became a grandfather from the incomprehensible youth slang of the youngest grandchildren to the judgmental but warm look of their mothers - daughters-in-law, daughters from the mischievous banter of the youngest new family in the house, expecting a baby in a month, to the lit candle on the cluttered table, in whose flame dance the images of the departed and ascended family members. The room always accommodates everyone, from the smallest to the largest, from the unborn to the ascended. Do not doubt… and the ascended ones are here – beside you at the table with a toast above you, patting your shoulder with pride behind you, covering your back…
Love, warmth, pride, understanding, support, protection - there are no stronger and truer feelings than those that December brings to a family at Christmas. The old ones in the room feel it best because their wisdom brings knowledge. And if you just look at them, you will benefit from it. Sit next to them for a moment, put a hand on their shoulder, hug them. You don't need to wrap this gift with a ribbon and put it under the tree. It is invisible to others, but it is actually the biggest and most valuable. You will know it by the trembling, wrinkled hands that will timidly clasp yours; by the shed warm tear from the eyes that can no longer see well; on the pounding heart, filled to bursting with so much unconditional love and motherly care...
Families gather in December. Dreams come true in December. Miracles happen in December!
