Today I had a free day and decided to take a walk in nature with the children. We got into the car and drove out of the big and noisy city. The journey was not long and after only about 20 minutes a wonderful picture was revealed in front of us, namely the greenery of the nearby mountain hill.

We parked the car and started our walk. Walking down the alley, I smelled a variety of natural scents. It wasn't long before we saw a building in the distance that was on top of a hill. Intrigued as to what it was, we headed towards the building.

It turned out that the area is known for wine production. For two decades, wine from Austria has been persistently developing. Anyone on vacation in Austria has the opportunity to take a peek behind the scenes and learn about where wine comes from. As always many roads lead to the goal.

The most common, but certainly not the most boring way: visiting the vintner. Austrian wineries are almost always family businesses and often stand out visually with one special feature - their great boldness towards modern architecture. Whether in the southernmost part of Styria or in the small villages of Burgenland. What the growers have created is something to be proud of. It goes without saying that guests are welcome in the new (and old) wine cellars and tasting rooms. If you book in advance, the vintners will usually give you a personal tour of the production facilities and cellars.

A kind of public cellar - the wine cellar
Regional wineries are another way to get to know all the important wineries in a region and get an overview of the winemakers and grape varieties. There you can study the labels in a relaxed atmosphere, get information and, of course, taste.

Only a few minutes ago we were walking around the old town and now we are sitting in the greenery: the vineyards on the outskirts of Vienna, reachable in no time from the city center and promise culinary delights in the glass and on the plate.

The walking trail is almost 20 kilometers long and it is the longest hiking trail in Vienna. It is located in the southern part of the city and passes through the most popular local recreation areas, a small municipality with an old castle. Therefore, part of the route is even outside of Vienna. The hiking trail is also easy to reach by public transport.
