Greetings my lovely friends!
Every year on May, as the full moon rises over the small island of Sri Lanka, the streets are come alive with the colorful lanterns, vibrant decorations and the oil lamps. Sri Lankans always wait for the full moon holidays but this one is the most awaited and special one for everyone. It is the festival which commemorates the birth, enlightenment, and passing of the Lord Buddha. It is a truly magical experience, especially for the Buddhist community.

One of my favorite experiences during the Vesak Festival was visiting the temples. Everyone wear white cloths to the temple and try to be kind and respectful as possible. The temples were beautifully decorated with colorful lanterns, flowers, and flags. The scent of incense filled the air, and the soothing sound of chanting could be heard inside the temple. This whole atmosphere can create a peaceful and serene environment to anyone who visit the temple.
Another the highlights of the festival for me is the Dansala, where people distribute free food and drinks to the people who travel nearby. They don’t ask anything and they will give out generously what they offer. In this festival nobody will sleep in hunger. You can find 24 hours free food on offer for every city or village. It is a reminder of the importance of generosity and kindness, and it brings a sense of fulfillment to be able to give back to the community.
Dansals also offer a convenient and delicious way for people to enjoy the festival, as they can grab a some foods to eat or a refreshing drink while they take in the sights and sounds of the celebration. Because almost all the families, small groups choose to stay up late and travel through the city and villages evaluating which area has the best lanterns and decorations. It is the most colorful night, So who wants to sleep!

Also, there is a tradition during Vesak is the giving of alms to the monks. It's a humbling experience to wake up early in the morning and go to the temple with family to offer food and other necessities to the monks. It is believed that by giving alms, one can accumulate merit and purify one's mind.
The Vesak Festival is a time for reflection and spiritual growth. I feel a sense of peace and contentment during this time, and it's a wonderful opportunity to connect with my community and my religious beliefs. It's a truly special experience and I feel truly blessed to be a part of it.
Good night friends!

Yes, we are recognized as most hospitable people as everyone smiles for anything even without a reason 😃 See, I just did that. When did you visit?

That was way back in 2017 when I visited Colombo and stayed with a local coworker who is an expert in coffee making. He makes coffee with different styles, tastes and flavors. I loved his mannerism and way of talking although his accent was a little different for me. I am form the land of Buddha so I understand people in your country are nice although my friend is not a follower of Buddhism.

Wow, it's crazy to think about how much has changed in Sri Lanka since 2017. Back then, everything seemed to be going smoothly and there weren't any major crises. But now, the people are definitely facing some challenges. Despite all of that, they're still holding strong and sticking to their way of life. I'm curious though, why would you choose to drink coffee in a country that's famous for its delicious tea? You friend must be a real coffee expert! 😃 Anyway, I hope you enjoyed a good cup of tea also.
