Introduction

Independence Day is the day where a country or nation was free from colonialism and stands on its own as a nation.
We were taught and history has it that for my country (Nigeria) to gain independence wasn’t a day fight, lives were lost but thanks for a successful victory gain at last.

My country Nigeria 🇳🇬 gain independence in October 1960
A date to remember, a day not to forget and a year to always cherish.

My country took independence from the British colonialism.

* Who is a prominent national figure associated with your country's independence, and why are they important?

Our country prominent national figure is Dr. Nnamdi Azikiwe
He helps in the struggle for Nigeria independence as a journalist and a politician
Fought for (Nigeria) independence in hand with Dr. Obafemi Awolowo , Dr. Ahmadu Bello, Dr. Herbert Macaulay, Dr. Anthony Enahoro and became our first president in 1966.

* Do the people of your country perform any special activities on your country's independence day? Tell us about them.

Every October 1st we celebrate our independence (Nigeria independence)
To celebrate this, every first October is a holiday, no work just a day for our country.
Many varieties do take place on this day as we celebrate our independence.
Such as dancing, showcasing of culture and food (food stuffs/agriculture)

Every tribe with their culture to display and local dishes are prepared too for the celebration

* Why do you think independence is compulsory for a nation or country?

According to history a nation that is not independence is under the control of a particular person or rulers which might enslaves the people and the nation too. To be free from their slavery and also to have rights and opinion of your own, the country has to be independence.

Independence brings about;
Freedom
Rights
Opinions
Dignity
Government
Developments
Culture
Unity

Which is very compulsory for independence.
Independence brings about economic development to the country/nation
Without independence there would be no cultural preservation (languages).

Independence brings about identity without independence a nation won’t/can’t be identified.

Conclusion

We are enjoying our (Nigeria) independence today cause of the sacrifice made by our prominent national figure and we will keep celebrating our victory.
