What do you understand by the word Karate?

Karate is a Japanese Martial art which originated in Okinawa, Japan. It emphasizes on kicks, blocks and punches. It's a combination of two Japanese words "kara" and "te" which means "empty" and "hand" respectively. It's an art which focuses mainly on discipline, respect, strength, self control, self defense and consistency. The body parts that is mostly used for it is the hands and legs.

List and explain 3 techniques in Karate.

  • Kihon

It is known as the building block of karate technique. It involves techniques such as punches(Tsuki) kicks(Geri) and Blocks(Uke). It can be performed with the hand.

  • kumite

Is a live fighting in which opponents applies karate techniques. It can be practiced as basic, free or prearranged Kumite.

  • Kata

Kata is a sequence of detailed pattern of movement done in pairs or in solo.

The karate movie I love and would recommend to every Steemian is the karate kid. Is a movie about a young Lad named Danie LaRusso(Jaden Smith). He moved to a new town and encountered bully from a group of students. As the bully persists, he decided to find an end to it and that was how he encountered Miyagi(Jackin Chan) a skilled Karate master who mentored him. Through consistent training, he developed strong karate skills and conquered his bully.

Some of the lessons learnt from the movie includes.

  • Perseverance

Daniel was determined to challenge his obstacles and he perservaed to the end.

  • Patience and Discipline

Daniel learnt from his mentor Mr Miyagi that karate isn't only about kicking but it also involves practice and dedication.

  • Consistency

It also portrays the power of continuous practice which helped Daniel to master the art of Karate excellently.

  • The power of mentorship

It also illustrates the importance of having someone we look up to for guidance
