I used to think that with my ordinary looks, hardly anyone can fall in love with me or be attracted to me. Most people used to look down upon me because of my very ordinary personality. But God has made a life partner for everyone.

That day I first met Abdul while working in the teachers room of the college. I was very shy even at that stage of my life. We both spent the entire lunch time together in the teachers room, not looking at anything else except each other. We were very isolated. Then one day, he called me to invite me for a long drive with him, and he asked in such a way that I felt I invited myself. And one night, when I was getting down from his car, he touched me lightly. I came home and told my sister, "I think he touched me, but I am not sure. Do you think he must have done it?"

Then I became very interested in him and told myself that I loved him very much. But I still had no plans to tell Abdul. We continued our strange ritual of modest but persistent acquaintance. I began thinking about him and waking up at midnight. I sat and wrote in my small capacity until morning. I never fully admitted to myself the source of my intense and unusual energy.

When Abdul first expressed to me my worth, my simplycity and expressed his love to me, and then my confidence returned, I often imagined later that I had become even braver. Still, the reality of what happened was overwhelming.

I have no words to adequately describe the strangeness and intensity of our being drawn to each other. I don't know why it took us so long. Neither of us were young lovers, so I can't attribute it entirely to shyness. And then we got married with mutual consent and are both living a happily married life. Looking back, it seems we were deeply and completely enjoying a phase in the development of a relationship, which even after eight years, remains one of the greatest joys and secrets of both our lives.
