What is the date of Independence Day in your country and from whom your country took independence?
Before I answer independence refers to the state of being free from external influence or dominance Nigeria gained independence on 31st October 1960 after several attempt of peaceful dialogue and protest Nigeria was finally granted independence that day and in that year. Prior to this, the Independence of Nigeria was not easy because they had to engage in dialogue and peaceful protest to bargain for the independence of Nigeria even as far as traveling abroad to attend meeting concerning the Independence of Nigeria. This brought about some nationalist who put the interest of Nigeria first ahead of theirs and finally they were free from British colonial rule this day has remains significant to Nigerians.

The prominent national figure in my country were; Tafawa Balewa, Obafemi Awolowo,Nnamdi Azikiwe, and Ahmadu Bello. All of them were very important to the development of nationalist movements and independence in Nigeria. But Nnamdi Azikiwe played a very crucial role in the history of Nigeria's independence. Azikiwe also known as the zik of Africa was the key man in Nigerian struggle for independence and freedom he was the country's first president and a leading advocates for Nigerian nationalism.
Do the people of your country perform any special activities on your countries Independence Day? Tell us about them.
In my country Nigeria people celebrate the Independence Day in Grand styles through various activities such as parades cultural display traditional dance as well as page given by the president and other members of the executive council, many wear green and white dresses to show their love for Nigeria on that day. Tribute are paid to past heroes and Nationalists. To show how this day is special it is usually declared public holiday.

Every country deserves to be free from external control independence makes a country to be free from external control and oppression. Independence makes a country economically and politically sovereign and above all makes a country to make decisions on their own.
I would love to invite @patjewell @blessedbee and @khayjhay to join in this contest.
See you in my next post.
We don't celebrate Independence Day in South Africa, although we became a republic in 1961. We were no longer a British colony.
This day was replaced with Freedom Day, the day that commemorates the first democratic elections held in South Africa on April 27, 1994, and the end of apartheid.
Thank you for sharing your insight about Nigeria's Independence Day.
Best wishes!
