Greetings and welcome to my blog. Thanks for another week of great learning, below is my home work task.

Have you prepared flan at home? Tell us about your experience.

I’ve not prepared flan before at home. Today was my first time of trying it out and it was a great experience. The lecture provided the necessary steps I needed to prepare it and following the steps diligently was helpful as it made the preparation a good one and it came out well.

Make a flan, you can follow the recipe given in the course or if you have another one that you have prepared you can share it, detailing utensils, ingredients and step by step.

Utensils

The utensils I used in making my flan is;

  • Blender
  • Pot
  • A mold ( a smaller pot as I didn’t have a mold)

Ingredients

  • Sugar
  • Eggs
  • Milk and
  • Condensed milk
  • Vanilla flavour

Procedure

  • To make my caramel, I put my sugar in the mould and heat it up to caramelize. When my caramel was set, I ensured it was evenly spread in the mold and set it aside to cool.

  • I put water into the pot and put it on the heat to heat up while I proceed to prepare my mixture. I proceeded to add the condensed milk and milk into the blender.

  • I also added the vanilla and eggs and blended together.

  • I poured the mixture into the mould and put it on in the Bain- Marie and cover it to cook over high heat.

  • I allow it for about fourth five minutes while I kept monitoring the water level to ensure it’s at half of the mould. After 45 minutes, I checked with a toothpick, it didn’t come out dry. I had to allow it cook a little more and checked again and It came out dry and I knew it was ready.

I didn’t not encounter any difficulties in making my flan. The step by step procedure in the lecture made it easy even as a first attempt and the end result was satisfactory.

In making a flan some tips must be considered to ensure our flan comes out perfect. One must ensure that in caramelising the sugar, that it does not get burnt. The ingredients should be used in the right quantities to ensure even taste.

The water level in the pot should always be checked for refill if it goes down. Ensure that the stick check comes out dry to ensure it’s ready to be consumed.
