Parents were informed by the state government that they have until January 8 to get their
kids vaccinated so that they can return to class, and that there would be shots given at free
clinics for those who are interested. The letters were the result of a bill that eliminated all
religious and philosophical exemptions to the measles, mumps, and rubella (MMR) vaccine. The bill, which was passed amid a massive measles outbreak that led to a public health emergency, could lead to thousands of kids having unexcused absences, according to USA Today.

Happy new year @atheistrepublic. It’s good to see you in my feed again.
My first reaction when you said that kids should be separated from their parents was “that’s a bit too extreme”.
But, realistically, parents are being negligent by not vaccinating and also preventing diseases from being eradicated.
So I actually agree that parents should be penalised in some manner if they choose to avoid vaccinating their kids. And schools refusing access to non-vaccinated kids is a great approach as well.
The only negative is that anti-vaxxers quite often choose to home school their children. Which unfortunately can continue the existence of anti-vaxxers across generations.

I agree with the bill. I'm sure people in the States will still have plenty of choices to have their children attend schools where no-vaccines are ok.
I guess there will be backlashes/plaints. It will be up to those in the majority to allowe the risks of having their kids share spaces with kids who are not protected against contagious diseases.
I agree with your idea of separating those kids from their parents. Vaccines have saved millions of lives throughout history. To insist on refusing vaccinations under the argument (still in contention) that they cause other diseases is irresponsible.
Unless there is undeniable proof that vaccines cause certain diseases, children should be vaccinated

I know some people have issues with vaccinations, but there is a lot of misinformation out there. Measles is still killing people around the world. Schools have a duty to protect kids in their care. As with some other topics I wonder about the motivation of some people who campaign against such things.

I’m torn between a person’s choice to choose and what’s best for the community.
But then again, we’re talking about adults raising children here. And if the adults are endangering their and other children then this is a no brainer. Schools should absolutely prevent non-vaccinated children from entering the premises.
I wonder if schools are checking the teachers to make sure that they are vaccinated? You can only assume that this would be common sense.
