In this Internet age of information explosion, readers are faced with unprecedented opportunities and challenges. On the one hand, we have inexhaustible e-book resources, which is undoubtedly a paradise for readers. Sites like zlibrary and Anna's Library include almost every book ever published and offer readers a choice of electronic formats. While these sites are controversial in terms of copyright, their contribution to preserving and disseminating knowledge of human civilization is undeniable.

However, the convenience of e-reading also brings new problems. Reading e-books on mobile devices such as phones and tablets is often difficult to get the same immersion and concentration as reading paper books. Our attention is easily distracted by more sensory-stimulating applications such as short videos and games, which affects the quality and effectiveness of reading to some extent.

To strike a balance between convenience and focus, I took a compromise: I printed out hard copies of books worth reading. This not only retains the advantages of easy access to e-books, but also enjoys the focused experience of paper reading. However, this method also brings a new challenge, and that is the problem of binding. The printed pages were often so numerous that it became a problem to bind them together securely.

Ordinary staples are obviously not up to the task, and binders, although they can cope with books of a certain thickness, still have limitations. After constant exploration, I finally found a perfect cheap solution, especially for thicker printed books of around 300 pages. This method is hot melt adhesive binding method, inspired by an up master's teaching video on B website.

To perform hot melt binding, you need to prepare the following tools: hot melt glue gun, woodworking clip, corrugated cardboard and triangle file. These tools are relatively common, the price is not high, it is easy to get together. Next, let me give you a detailed introduction to the specific operation steps.

First, arrange the printed pages in order and stamp them repeatedly to make sure each page is aligned. The pages are then clamped back and forth with corrugated cardboard and secured with woodworking clamps, which prevents the pages from falling apart in subsequent operations. Next comes the crucial step: Use a triangular file to carve a series of grooves on the spine of the book about 1 mm deep, and these grooves should be spaced as closely as possible to increase the adhesion area of the subsequent hot melt glue.

Gluing is the most important part of the process. First fill the grooves with a hot glue gun, then smooth out the glue with the tip of the gun. Repeated gluing and smoothing until the desired thickness is reached. Finally, the prepared spine material is glued on, and the entire binding process is complete.

After this treatment, the final result is quite satisfactory. A bound book is so strong that it won't fall apart even if you pick it up with one hand and leave the other half of the pages dangling. This method not only solves the problem of thick book binding, but also allows us to enjoy the fun of doing it ourselves.

In this digital age, we should not only embrace the convenience brought by new technology, but also maintain respect and cherish the traditional way of reading. Hot glue binding is a good example, which cleverly combines the convenience of e-books with the reading experience of paper books, providing us with a new reading possibility. This method can not only satisfy our thirst for knowledge, but also give us a sense of achievement in hands-on practice.

Finally, I would like to say that whether it is an e-book or a paper book, the most important thing is always the content in the book and our attitude when reading it. In this era of information explosion, we need to cultivate the ability to focus on reading, to separate the wheat from the chids, so that reading can truly become an activity that nourishes the soul. Let us work together to become true readers in this best and worst of times.
