囚牛，中国古代神话传说中的神兽，为鳞虫之长瑞兽龙之长子。平生爱好音乐。《治世余闻》有云：“囚牛，龙种，性好音乐。”传说囚牛是众多龙子中性情最温顺的，它不嗜杀不逞狠，专好音律。龙头蛇身的它耳音奇好，能辨万物声音，它常常蹲在琴头上欣赏弹拨弦拉的音乐，因此琴头上便刻上它的雕像。
