Happy to relate with you on this last day of season5 engagement challenge. As the topic demands, I welcome you to my blog where I will be sharing my views about values.

Why are values important in society?

---

I can not imagine a society without value. How will it be if we have no sense of right or wrong? How will the future be for us? How are we going to treat one another? How will the society gets to develop? I can't just imagine it. But I believe it will just be more like a joke.

Value is what gives the society the sense of rights and wrongs. With that sense, we are able to respect, love, empathize, sympathize, and care for one another. With that sense, the society is able to live as one. Also, value is what makes the society to grow and develop.

No wonder, right from birth, our parents and other people in the family or society take it as a responsibility to socialize us so that we can grow in the acceptable way of the society. A society that lost it value, is a society that's made to fail. No such society can yield something good because, a society without value is a society with no future.

What do you consider to be the values that define you?

I am so grateful to God who made it possible for me to grow in a family that's full of value. Today I can tell you that with the value I acquired, I can live anywhere and with anybody without a problem. Few of the value that defines me are:

• Respect: I have learned to respect whoever I come in contact with. Respect is a sustainer of relationship. Without respect, people can not live together and the society can not leave as one. I am glad I have acquired that, and it is of great advantage to me.

• Honestly: the attributes of sincerity are one of the values that define me. In all I do, I try to be honest. Without honesty, we can not please God. Without honesty, we can not be trusted.

• Responsibility: I have heard a saying that, a man that runs from responsibility is a man that won't go far in the journey of life. I am glad I am a man full of responsibility. Whatsoever I place before me, I always make sure to achieve it.

• empathy: this has to do with putting yourself in the shoes of other people. Assuming yourself to be the one passing through their conditions. I am glad I have such value because, instead of judging people, I try to empathize with them.

In what circumstances of your day do you apply them?

They shouldn't be a particular circumstance in a day where value should be applied. value applies to every aspect of life. It applies to the way we dress, talk, eat, relate with people, and even in the way we sit. Imagine a woman who wore a skirt sitting with her legs wide open. It won't speak well of her I guess. In conclusion, in whatever we do, let's think of what the result will be. Whether it affects personality (value) or not.

What are the anti-values that you have witnessed the most?

The number of times I witnessed anti-value can not be mentioned at all. The Society is now changing into something different. On daily basis, we witness attitudes that are against the ways of the society. Below are few anti-values I have witnessed.

• Disrespect: gone are the days when children give respect to elders. What we see daily is children disrespecting their parents and other elders in the society. I believe every society is strictly against such behavior
• jealousy: members of the society are now going against the progress of one another. Some year's ago, we are taught to celebrate the success of one another, but today reverse is the case.
• arm robbery and kidnapping: the rate at which kidnapping and robbery is growing in the society is alarming. People now see it as a means of making money. Only few see it as a crime. What a bad generation.

Do you think values change or go out of style?

If you ask me, I will tell you that values ​​are established by societies. And we all know that we acquire them right from birth. As we grow, our parents and other family members guide us on how to behave in the ways of society. Even in schools, we learn values.

In my opinion, value can neither be changed nor go out of fashion. What is good is good forever, and what is bad is bad forever. That's what value is all about. It reveals to us good things and those that are not acceptable. Nevertheless, people sometimes try to change values to suit their interests.
