SEC-S8W5. "I missed the idea!"

Sorry, what did you say? I missed the idea... BLANK PAGE!

Many years ago I attended a seminar here in my beloved country. The guest speaker was the evangelist, ordained minister, and motivational speaker Myles Monroe from the Bahamas. I say was as a couple of years after I met him he and his wife died in a plane crash.

When he addressed us during the seminar he opened the session with a question. “Do you know where is the richest place on earth?”
A question that got us all thinking. “It is just down the road.” More thinking from all of us.
“It is the graveyard! Do you know how many ideas are buried that were missed?”

I will carry these words with me for the rest of my life.

How often don’t we miss out on ideas, thoughts, suggestions, and opportunities because of our own doings?

Have I ever been saying something and forgot what I was saying?

Yes!

This happens to all of us!

My dad is to blame for this specific incident I want to tell you about.

Being a woman in the corporate world was not easy when I was in my younger days. Men intimidate us females. They would not give us a chance to speak. They had to have the last say and their ideas were always the best.

Dad warned me against these men when as I was moving up the ladder in the corporate world. “Never be intimidated by men and their double breast suits” was the advice he gave me. He wanted me to stand up for who I am, the success I was experiencing, and for believing in my ideas.

I had to meet with a group of real estate gurus convincing them to implement the system we developed for the real estate industry in their group of agencies. I knew the system by heart and I planned what I was going to say and how I was going to lead the meeting.

On my arrival, I was taken to the boardroom to discover that the participants were already waiting for me, not that I was late. Looking around all that I could see were men. This was going to be a tough meeting. The atmosphere was extremely stiff.
I decided to get these men right out of their chairs and put smiles on their faces. You know, with one of those ice-breakers games we play at seminars.

“Simons says” Yes, we are going to play a game of, “Simon says”. I told them to all stand up. Very reluctantly they did it. A horror was facing me. Men, all of them in double-breast suits! No! I could not get one word over my lips… I missed the idea.

Have I been asked a question where I got confused even when I knew the answer?

Oh yes!

Plenty of times.

The problem is that my brain operates too fast for my liking. I am still at point Beee when my brain is already at point Zeee.

It is the same when I write. I am still at a point busy typing like mad when my brain comes up with 10 other points. Man oh, man. I can confuse myself and with that, I miss what I was going to say or write before my brain took off like that red car with the horse in the front.

The only thing I can do is to sit back, take a deep breath, and try to remember what the questions war or where I left off. If I am not in the position to do that I slow down in the speed I am talking.

What also helps when I am in a meeting is to ask for a glass of water pretending that I have a frog in my throat that I first need to get rid of. The little bit of a break helps me to gather my thoughts again and put them back into that Mini.

I’ve come to the conclusion that my thoughts are often faster than the speed of speaking.

They say the older you get the better it will become. I suppose only time will tell.

Do I have to take notes or do I remember ideas and things I have to do?

All the time!

I have two nicknames in the family, one is “Mother Teresa”, and the other one, is “Mrs. To Do”. I am the queen of “To Do”. I have to make notes.

I have a black book for writing on my desk. I have a mini pad and pen in my kitchen and I have a pen and paper in my car. And of course, I have that “Notes” field on my mobile phone.

If I don’t have something with me to make notes I will make little rhymes so that I can remember what I have to do or what I have to buy.

“While I am drinking my milk I have to buy a chicken to put between two slices so that the dogs can enjoy it.”
I must buy, milk, chicken, bread, and dog food.

Do I repeat a question as part of an answer?

Never!

The experts say that if you repeat a question before you answer it you will have time to think about what you want to say. It is also a way to make sure you understand the question.

I always wonder what lies the person is going to come up with when he repeats the question. It also feels to me that the person wants to be in control therefore he repeats my words.

I once had an interview with a potential employee who repeated every question I asked. My first thought was that the person is deaf and as he will be working in the call center there is no way I could give him the job. When I noticed that he wasn’t deaf my next thought was that he suffers from short-term memory.

No, for me, repeating a question or part thereof is no good!

But, it might be different for you. As they say, different strokes for different folks.

Has anything curious or serious ever happened to me that made me forget what I was about to say?

Umh...

I told you about the men with the double-breast suits so let me think a bit…

Although my brain is a wonderful computer it happens with times that it just can't do two complicated things at the same time or is it that I am not paying close attention to what I am doing? Umh… Distraction! Let’s blame distraction.

I once was helping a company with health products to get off the ground. I introduced a licensing module to them and set up various meetings across the country with potential licensees. One of them was well known politician's wife.

I had to travel 5 hours to get to the hotel where we were going to meet that morning. I waited and waited and eventually I got hold of her secretary who told me that she was on her way. As it was already late afternoon I decided to book into the hotel and to go buy a set of clean clothes.

Later that evening I received a call from her secretary telling me that she will be there in the morning.

It was the next morning and no sign of her. I phone her and eventually, she answered the phone herself telling me that I must just wait she is on her way.

Afternoon, no sign of her. What should I do, leave or stay? As I didn’t want to travel at night I decided to extend my stay at the hotel. That evening another call from her. She had a crisis but she will see me in the morning.

Late morning the next day and still no sign of her. I had enough. I was not going to stay in the hotel another night and I was definitely not going to buy another set of clothes. As I was booking out of the hotel my phone rang and it was her telling me that she has arrived and will meet me in the restaurant.

I was the first one at the restaurant and when she walked in my jaw dropped. There she was, with her secretary, 8 bodyguards, and two friends. A party of ten.
Before I could even introduce myself properly she told me that I must order food for them as they are hungry. What? Is she expecting me to order and pay for food for all ten of them? As it is I was already on edge and it wasn’t going to take much more from me to just get up and walk out.

Food was ordered and I could eventually start telling her about the product and the progress we are making with HIV/Aids patients. As I was in the middle of my presentation the food arrived. More waiting for me.

What happened next was her pulling her plate closer, rolling up her sleeves, and starting to tear the steak apart with her bare hands long red nails flashing every now and again, sipping from her glass without lifting it.
I can assure you that not only did my jaw drop for the second time but my eyes were as big as saucers.

I could not remember a word of what was next in my presentation. I totally forgot to tell her why we were actually meeting, the business opportunity.

Looking back she must have thought that I am the most stupid woman on earth. As for me, I thought I was experiencing aphasia from bumping my head the previous day.

Well, one thing I can say…

I truly missed the idea!

Oh no, I read your post without batting an eye when you said your jaw drops and your eyes are as big as plates, so I've been thinking about how it happened and my eyes are bigger than your imagination,
It's hard to believe, because ideas should be conveyed well and in a calm state,... Even so, I'm glad that in the end you can still go home without laughing from them. Make me your assistant, then I will be the first person to prinkle and grow nose for them... apparently, conveying the idea is also very complicated😅
Always happy and healthy mod'm... 🤗🥰

Haha! If you were closer I would have made you my assistant any day.(•ิ‿•ิ)
Now I can look back enjoy what happened those couple of days. When it happened I couldn't.
So often the smallest of things can distract us from saying what we wanted to say. In the end... it happens to all of us.
Thanks for the visit and the engagement my friend!

Haha
You are absolutely right mod'm... we hope that distraction doesn't happen too often, because it can be "dangerous" 😁🤭

My most recent pay test was for a 12-hour-per-week internet job for $9,500. For months, my sister's friend has been making an average of 15,000, and she puts in about 20 hours every week. As soon as I gave it a try, I was shocked at how simple it was.

Goodness! The politician's wife was so extravagant, I mean after spending 3days let me laugh at you a bit, you know you really missed the idea. Haha 😂 thanks for sharing with us, I wish you success!

Looking back I have to laugh at myself for missing the idea.
BUT I can assure you that at the time it was not funny at all.(•ิ‿•ิ)
Thank your the visit and the engagement!
It is appreciated! 🎕

BUT I can assure you that at the time it was not funny at all.(•ิ‿•ิ)

Not at all! But that's their lifestyle anyway!

¡Holaaa amiga!😊

Umh.. that is some interesting reading that you have mentioned.
All that I know is that the human body is just totally amazing... from how your brain operates to the tip of our toes. We are just one big miracle!
The brain must absorb, think, and react while working together with all our other organs.
No wonder mine gets a bit confused with times. (•ิ‿•ิ)
Thank you for the visit and the engagement!
A big hug right back at you! 🧸

Es normal que algunas veces tengamos lapsos mentales donde las cosas o expresiones se nos olvidad, lo cumbre del asunto esta en que no se haga costumbre y estar atentos de hasta donde es el limite fisiológico. Exito en tu excelente participación amiga!

Ah! There you've nailed it!
It must not become a habit! That is so true.
I've read sometime ago that you can actual practice you mind not to run away with things.
It is for me to say thank you for the visit and the engagement.
Thank you! 🎕
