After the fall

It was three years after, but the wind still blew stronger, the dried leaves from the 'Udara' tree still drops revengefully onto the red-coloured earth.

Even the birds continued to sing wailful songs, the old men of Ubanla clan shook their heads and sighed, the sky stared bleak • • • it was three years after.

The fall

Ubanla clan stood tall in the heart of the kingdom, united, they stood as one. They waxed to the envy of neighbouring clan who eyed the vibrancy and productivity of the clan.

"iiiiisssssh what a clan, Ubanla of yesterday, see how fast their children grow, their soil is so fertile" they would often spit in envy"

Ubanla clan was made up of the young and the old, the men usually sat in groups biting on the kolanuts and sipping in the milky liquid, 'palmwine' a sweet African wine tapped from palm tree. The youths of the clan always ensured there was enough palmwine to go round.

The women stayed home saddled with domestic activities and nurturing the home, they were basically family centered.

The young children assisted at home with house chores and went on errands.

Every day before dusk, the whole clan gathered in the clan square under a fire place, during these gathering disputes are settled, matters of interest are also discussed, therefore they sing and play before dispersing to their various huts, it was a ritual.

Powder guns were fired, screams were heard, war songs were sang, lands were set ablaze.

Ubanla clan was under attack by intruders.

"kei kei kei, Ubanla yo" the Youth head cheered.

"wei o wei" they responded...

On the night of the new year was the first time they gathered at the clan square after the attack.

A remedy must be proffered, they cannot go into hiding anymore, the clan stenched of hunger and sorrow, something must be done.

This was not the nature of Ubanla clan, they thought to themselves.

"Ubanla, though we fall, we shall pick up our remnants, we shall heal" they chorused in unison.

In Brotherhood and in one mind a campfire ceremony was resolved to hold.

While camping, they would join heads together to raise back the flying banner of Ubanla clan, this time around no descendant of the devil would dare !

90 days of camping, 90 long days of toiling, 90 hard days of sweat and blood,

LOOK ! UBANLA IS RESTORED.

"kei kei kei, Ubanla yo"

"wei o wei"
