Time is something that is part of everyone's life. Every moment passes and new moments come. There are some moments we want to remember and some we prefer to forget. But can we really consider time our friend or enemy?
Firstly, time is very important in our lives. We do everything according to time. When we are children, time passes slowly but as we grow older, we don't even realize how time has flown by. Childhood is filled with joy and fun but as responsibilities increase, time seems to speed up.
In my opinion, time is neither anyone's friend nor anyone's enemy. Time just keeps passing as it is. Rather, we ourselves use or waste it according to our needs. If we utilize time properly, it becomes our friend. But if we waste time in laziness or mischief, it becomes detrimental for us. Similarly, over a lifetime, people who used time constructively led successful lives while those who wasted time lived lonely and unfulfilled lives.
Indeed, every human's life has been connected with time from the beginning until today. From childhood to old age, morning to night, and January to December, every moment of time keeps passing. No matter how much we try to stop or turn back time, it keeps moving forward. So, we can say that "we are bound by time".
However, it is also true that time is perfect and divine because it is created by Allah. The cycle of day and night, changing seasons, and the annual cycle – everything works with a purpose so that humans can align their lives accordingly. If time stopped or reversed, the whole universe would be disrupted. So, we can also state that "time is divine and flawless". Time is under the control of the Creator and He regulates it in the best way.
Therefore, I believe both facts are correct – humans are time's captive but time itself is perfect because its beginning and end depend on Allah's will. We can only utilize it for our benefit. If we spend it in good deeds and virtues, it will be better for us, otherwise time can also torment us.
Looking closely, time does seem like a loop that has no destination. We grow from childhood to old age, then in old age we become child-like again. Similarly, every season comes at its time – stays for a few days then comes back. The daily cycle repeats too – from morning to night then morning returns. Every year also goes through the cycle of starting from one new year and ending at the next. So, to some extent, we can say time keeps going in loops.
But from another perspective, time never goes back – what has passed is gone! Seeing this, it can also be said that time is moving forward like a straight line with no end in sight. Every moment is unique and different. No two moments in life are identical. In this sense, time flows only as a straight line.
Therefore, I feel both views are valid in their own way. What matters is that however we perceive time, we should value it and make the best use of it.
When COVID hit in 2020 and everything went into lockdown, I had a lot of free time at home. But I couldn't even think about job hunting or skill building in that time.
In those days, a game called PUBG had become very popular and with no university due to the lockdown, I had nothing else to do so I became addicted to this game. I wouldn't even realize how many hours a day I was spending playing.
When I look back at that time now, I really regret it. I had such an opportunity to search for jobs as that's when remote work trends started. But I wasted all my time gaming.
If I had looked for a remote job then, I would be very comfortable today. But what's gone is gone, now I'm trying from my end and hopefully InshaAllah I will improve my financial condition.
I know this hate-love relationship too well. The one day it just suits me fine, and the next day, boy oh boy, I can disrupt my whole world.
The best is to make the most of it at all times.
It is only later in life that you discover that lost time is indeed never to be found.

Saludos @waqarahmadshah.
