Greetings dear steemians, It's the second week of the engagement challenge contest already and I'm so happy to be part of this week's contest. This week the community has come up with a very interesting topic titled: “My Languages.”

It's no longer news that in our world today there are thousands of languages and each of these languages is being described by its roots and regions. I am a Nigerian and in my country, there are 500 different languages across the country, but there are 3 main languages which, are Hausa, Yoruba, Igbo, and English. Sometimes, the environment I stay in influences the language I learn and speak.

How many languages do you speak? Which of them are your native languages and which ones have you studied?

I am a Tarabian and in my state, there are sixteen different languages but I speak 6 different Languages which are Hausa, English, Kaka, Mumuye, Yoruba, and a little French. Staying in the northern part of Nigeria, the most spoken language there are Hausa and English.

My Native Language is the Kaka from the Mambila plateau, Sardauna LGA in Taraba State Nigeria, Kaka is like a heritage language since from my forefather's lineage and I can speak it so well.

I have little knowledge of French because it is part of the Nigerian curriculum in the educational system. I learn French in school and I can speak French but just a little.

Yoruba is one of the languages that I learned just within a year, during my youth service I was posted to Kwara State, and the land is dominated by the Yorubas. So when I came 99% of the people around me speaks the language only a few understand the English language so I had no option but to learn in other to communicate with them as well.

What methods have you used to learn other languages?

I learn another language through deep observation trials, growing up as a child, I meet my parent speaking the Kaka language which I grow to learn as my native language.

I learn the Yoruba language when I was serving, since many people around me speak Yoruba, I try to learn and understand some basic speech. I start by learning how to greet and have basic conversations.

Getting myself involved in a conversation with the Yoruba people help me improve my language skills. The method I use is to constantly try to develop an interest in the language and then try to learn.

In addition to the ones you already speak, what other language would you like to learn?

I wish to learn Spanish, I have a lot of interest to learn the Spanish language. In one of the international relation course I was privileged to study, I have a little idea of the language and the language I wish to learn.

What do you consider to be the most difficult thing about learning another language?

It helps in international relations, interacting with strangers, and boosting different perspectives of understanding in different languages across the world.

But the most difficult thing about learning another language is the flexibility of the tongue to adapt the language, and understanding the language concept.

Another difficulty is adapting to the new language, even though it comes gradually but once someone adapts to it, he gets to understand it better.

Why do you think it is important to master several languages?

It is important to master several languages because you can involve in international business, and it will help someone to learn other languages and norms. It helps to understand people's culture.

Learning different languages will make one communicate easily with others. It also increases our brain power by making it function so well. Lastly, it is very easy for one to travel if he or she understands.

Conclusion

In conclusion, learning different languages Is very essential because it helps us adapt to any environment and people of different cultures fast.

I invite @josepha @mjerry and @bensam2040 to come and participate

Hello I also know a little yoruba and its a nice language. Learning a new language is really interesting and fun when we master it, but its not always easy to do learn it and it needs a lot of discipline

You are right ma'am, learning different languages it's not that easy but one good thing about learning is that, once you have interest in it then the process will be more easier for one to learn.

Thank you very much i so much appreciate your comments.

Best regards🥰
