Greetings marvelous Felines and Hoomans!
I hope this new week is starting off well for you; we're slowly getting closer to the Holidays.
Since this is basically a Cat Blog, it also means that there are lots of photos of cats. And now, that has just become even more true, as we have added a new member to the household: Smudge!
A rare picture of Smudge, posing. She's almost always out of focus...
Photographing Cats... Fun, Fun, Fun...
Today, Smudge showed us that she has that fine talent of so many cats in the world: Sitting perfectly still in an adorable pose... until a split second before the photo is taken, at which point the cat either EXITS the frame, or starts cleaning its private parts!
You may get to see some nice photos here, but the vast majority of our photos feature what we affectionately refer to as "cat blur."
Shadow demonstrating "cat blur." A few moments earlier, he was looking straight at the camera!
Is it in Focus... Or...??
Smudge is what's known as a "tortoiseshell" or "Calico" cat.
We always thought black cats were tricky to photograph (no contrast) but torties present their own set of peculiar challenges to the cat photographer. This is particularly true of the longer haired cats like Smudge... sometimes we're not quite sure whether the image is blurry, or it's the fuzzy randomness of her markings that make it look blurry.
Shadow — aka "Curator Cat" — is best photographed in very strong front lighting, that way we can actually see his features.
Shadow posing, for a change...
Well Worth it!
In the end, though, cat photography is well worth the extra trouble. Most cats are "posers" and tend to be naturally photogenic.
We just have to keep in mind that photo sessions are done according to their whims and schedules... not according to when we (the Hoomans) want and need more photos!
Thanks for stopping by!

I have a cat quite similar to smudge. She's a calico Siamese mix, if the back of the ears, tail are black and has a majority black colored paws it's likely your cat may be Himalayan Siamese mix. Oh, and a "snippy" like temperament. lol.

Smudge isn't exactly snippy, but she's very much a "talker" and has something to comment on pretty much everything! She also has a bit of that "two half cats" thing going, even personality wise..
