On Windows 8 to 11 you only need to activate windows defender without needing to install. This is because it has become part of the operating system. Here are the steps to activate Windows Defender.

1. The following is a sign that Windows Defender is active, namely a white shield and when the mouse is pointed at the icon a PC status message (protected) will appear.

4. Windows defender default setting regarding database update is automatic. We can also update the database manually by clicking ubdate on the ubdate tab.

5. The following is the history tab which contains the history of windows defender action data on the findings of viruses, spyware and malware. In this tab you can see programs such as the one below.

6. The following are the settings to enable or disable Windows Defender by ticking the turn on real time protection recommended setting.

7. The following settings to exclude files or folders from the scan process by windows defender. These exceptions can speed up the scanning process but increase the vulnerability of your computer to virus, spyware or malware attacks.

10. Following are the advanced settings for windows defender, such as:

• scan archive files

• scan removable drives such as flash drives

• create restore points before deleting, running or quarantine findings from Windows Firewall

• remove findings from Windows Defender that have been quarantined after some time, according to settings

• Send the findings to Microsoft if further analysis is needed regarding the findings of Windows Defender to determine that the file is harmful to your computer.

11. Following are the settings for using Microsoft Active Protection Service (MAPS) which functions to automatically report malware or other malicious software to Microsoft. You can choose not to activate this setting, send basic information or complete information.

12. The last setting is to determine whether Windows Defender will notify you when spyware or other malicious software tries to run a process or install something malicious on the computer.
