My greetings to this great community and happy Sunday to you all. I trust we all are doing great! Today i will will be sharing with us how burial celebration is done in part of Cross River State of Nigeria. Below are the details:
Oyenghe is a great community in CRS and the people are highly respected because their way of life. This is because they work in unity and cares for one another. Whenever somebody of aged died, he/she is being celebrated by the host community. However, in this community, burial celebration is been done in town phases.
The first phase is the vigil (way keep). Here the cops is removed from the mortuary and carried to the deceased compound. On our way to his compound, we were going in lines.
Reaching the village, we have some men known as under-takes who carried the gasket and displayed round about the village and this calls for great crowd. You can see the picture below:
This phase is the burial proper, here the church preached and berried the decease person. The children and families where encouraged that they should not worry and that God is now their father.
I went as a video man and my job was to make sure that all what is done in the area was covered. The burial was a big burial because the man came from a royal family and he got married to more that 20 wifes, he has more than 30 children, more than 40 grand children and so on. And he died at 80. This is why all were celebrating with the family because he has died at his old age.
The funeral service was a success because there was no fighting of any kind and i saw unionism amongst the children.
The fact is; i was very tired when i came back. Thank you for your time.
