My work in the real world has been completed, and I'm so confused that I don't have any ideas to continue the sequel to the novel I wrote, so on this occasion I will try to do something that satisfies my curiosity for a long time, namely: Proving the authenticity of the license super cheap on the Indonesian Marketplace.

In this example, I tried to find Microsoft Office 2019 Licenses from several Marketplaces, starting from Tokopedia, Bukalapak, Blibli, and Shopee, until long story short, I finally found the cheapest one that caught my attention because the total sales of these licenses were more than 1.8 thousand products.

As in the picture above, it is explained that the price is being discounted for flash sales of up to Rp. 85,000, and of course as far as I know Microsoft rarely gives discounts like this except on the official Microsoft Store page.

But before making a purchase, there are a few things I need to check and recheck about this sales page, where first I want to confirm what the seller said here that he is an official reseller or a real Microsoft Authorized Reseller. Then the second thing is that I want to know how and what activation methods are needed, considering that I also happened to have purchased a license for Microsoft Office 2016 and Microsoft Office 2019 which were really official from Microsoft.

See if a Seller is an Authorized seller and a Microsoft Authorized Reseller?

From what we can see in the picture above, there the Seller says that he is a Microsoft Authorized Reseller, the official Microsoft Indonesia account on the Shopee platform and to prove this, I tried to go to the official Microsoft page, where Microsoft lists the official Reseller they And here is an example:

If we look at the page, Microsoft itself doesn't include shopee in its official retailer, so what the seller said at Shopee is quite confusing so I don't believe in buying products there. But considering there are more than 1.8 thousand buyers and almost perfect stars, I tried to sacrifice a little money to satisfy my curiosity.

Microsoft Office Purchase and Activation Process.

To continue and fulfill my curiosity, I finally tried to buy one Microsoft Office 2019 Professional Plus product, which in this process I had to spend around IDR 86,000 (product + handling fee from Shopee).

Long story short, it only took less than 1 hour for me to get a license that was sent via email, and of course if you expect to get a box containing an installation cd and an original license card from a genuine Microsoft Authorized Reseller, then unfortunately it's not here because from what we get, we only get an email containing the serial number and guide only.

Well, here I will try to do a test with the installation of Microsoft Office 2019 Professional on Windows 10 Pro Build 19042 which I installed and installed in VirtualBox, then after installing as many users already know, if Windows 10 is connected to a Microsoft account it is usually Microsoft Office will immediately sync with the account and the activation will be automatic as long as the connected account has purchased a real Office license.

And because of that, of course I had to log out of my account first to test and satisfy myself from this curiosity. For simple steps, I tried to re-install Microsoft Office 2019 in the User Profile without any Microsoft account connected, and of course as usual, after the installation is complete, we will be asked to enter the Serial Number of the Microsoft Office application.

In the picture above, it seems to show an error, because I entered the serial number wrong, then I tried to repeat it more carefully when entering the serial number, and here I can't copy and paste because I didn't activate the shared clipboard in VirtualBox, then after serial I enter the number, we will be asked for an Offline activation method via telephone, just like in my picture below.

Okay friends, from here I'm just trying to follow because Microsoft does provide alternative steps other than going online, it turns out to be different from the official steps from Microsoft, where we have to make a call to Microsoft from the number provided in step 1 which I blurted out, in the seller's guide. provide, we must first enter his website and login there using the seller's Username and Password.

In that page, we need to know together, that this page is not a Microsoft domain, but on the website page it displays the Microsoft logo and label which is just an image content hosted from:

Again, Microsoft is not responsible for anything on these pages. Long story short, I finally logged in with the username and password provided in the tutorial sheet provided by the Seller, and then I was faced with a page like the image below:

Exactly like the picture above, there you can see that we can enter the Installations ID in the Microsoft Office application. In addition, there is a Get Activations ID button and a Text Area that will display the Activations ID output. After that I tried to enter the Installations ID of the Microsoft Office 2019 that I just installed and I tried to click Get Activations ID, there will be a pause of a few seconds until loading is complete and until the Activations ID appears.

I think this is more or less akin to doing Generator Activations ID as Crack normally does, and to my knowledge it's a clear violation of Microsoft's licensing policy. Why? I'll discuss it at the end of my post, but if I'm wrong, please correct me.

After I entered the Activations ID given from the website into the form available in Microsoft Office, the application was immediately activated as usual. Unfortunately I didn't have time to take a photo of the activation result.

Was the activation successful?

The answer is yes, and then I tried to update and do some other things, everything seems normal and there are no problems. In addition, we also need to know that this activation is permanent with no time period and the license is active forever. In addition, of course, you can install this series again if you reinstall Windows 10, with a note that the installation steps must be the same as before.

Discussing Legality.

There are 2 important points that I will try to discuss here. The first is the problem of the seller who says that he is a Microsoft Authorized Reseller and it turns out that after I checked the page, https:, I can confirm that the Seller is not a Microsoft Authorized Reseller, considering that Microsoft also doesn't include Shopee on that page (except for the IT Gallery which when it was opened), it will be directed to the Shoppe page following.

While the second is the step to get an Activation ID that as far as I know is very different from what Microsoft explains in the page support its. In addition, if we associate this with Microsoft License Terms which people rarely read, then you will find the following sections.

"5. Authorized Software and Activation. You are authorized to use this software only if you have the appropriate license, and the software has been properly activated using the original product key or by other lawful means".

There are basically 2 legitimate methods for activation. The first is through the internet and the second is by telephone. But based on what this seller gave, it's not both, but using some kind of online generator to get the Activations ID.

Then is it dangerous?

Basically it's safe. But back again to the Microsoft License Terms which very few people read and are still in section 5 regarding official software and activation. There it is explained as follows, "the software can know that the installed copy of the software is pirated, not licensed with correct, or includes unauthorized changes". In other words, at some point in the future the activation that was successfully carried out in the steps above will be canceled by Microsoft and the user will find that their Microsoft Office product has not been reactivated.

Deficiency.

Apart from legal issues, of course if one day the owner changes the username and password from the website to generate Activations ID, the user cannot reactivate it until the user gets a new username and password to access the website page.
