DVDs and CDs are physically the same size, but DVDs can store 13 times more data than CDs. This is because DVDs use a smaller laser wavelength and a tighter track pitch than CDs. The smaller laser wavelength allows for more pits to be packed onto the disc, and the tighter track pitch allows the pits to be placed closer together. As a result, DVDs can store much more data than CDs.
