While it's true that ostriches have one of the longest digestive systems among birds, the actual length is much shorter:
- Actual length: Most reliable sources state that the small intestine of an ostrich measures between 1.5 and 2 meters (5 and 6.5 feet) long. This is still quite impressive considering their overall size, but significantly different from the previously mentioned 46 feet.
- Largest digestive system: Ostriches do hold the record for the largest digestive system among living birds, encompassing both the small and large intestines. However, their overall gut length, including both small and large intestines, is around 4 meters (13 feet), still far from the 14 meters originally mentioned.
