Actually, plastic bottles were first used for soft drinks in 1960, not 1970. The first commercially successful plastic soft drink bottle was introduced by The Pepsi-Cola Company in 1960. It was made of polyethylene terephthalate (PET), a type of plastic that is still used today. The PET bottle was a major innovation in the soft drink industry, as it was lighter, less expensive, and more break-resistant than glass bottles.

Plastic bottles quickly became popular with consumers, and by the 1970s, they had largely replaced glass bottles for soft drinks. Today, almost all soft drinks are sold in plastic bottles.
