They are so rare that only a handful of them have ever been found. Green diamonds get their color from the presence of natural radiation, which causes the carbon atoms in the diamond to become dislodged.
The most famous green diamond is the Dresden Green, which is housed in the Green Vault museum in Dresden, Germany. The Dresden Green is a 41-carat diamond that is believed to have been mined in India in the 17th century.
Other notable green diamonds include the Ocean Dream, a 5.52-carat diamond that was mined in Russia in 2006, and the Aurora Green, a 5.03-carat diamond that was mined in Guyana in 2014.
Green diamonds are extremely valuable, and they are often sold for millions of dollars. In 2016, a 5.03-carat green diamond was sold at auction for over $16 million.
